This freeware release brings the notable Boeing 777-2D7 wearing Thai Airways International’s classic paint scheme into FSX. It preserves the refined work of Melvin Rafi (original designer) while incorporating the FSX-focused updates by developer David Grindele. This package contains flight dynamic corrections, enhancements for improved visuals, and integration with A2A’s 3D lighting effects. From its engine cowlings that open for thorough inspection to the smooth jetway docking, it offers a fully operational wide-body experience for virtual aviators.

Model Origins and Credits

The initial 777-2D7 model emerges from the creative efforts of Melvin Rafi. He crafted these aircraft with high-resolution textures and unique animations that set them apart when first released. Over time, David Grindele took on the challenge of converting and tuning the dynamics for FSX. Both individuals’ work serves to showcase a detailed simulation of the twin-engine airliner.

Main Improvements for FSX

  • Refined flight behavior through tweaked air and configuration files (air files govern handling, while CFG files manage aircraft parameters).
  • Preserved visuals, ensuring no detail loss from Melvin’s original design.
  • Adaptation of A2A 3D Lights and Redux support (lights appear with better bloom and realism).
  • Opening engine cowlings for added immersion (use Shift + E to reveal internal components).
  • Jetway interaction that aligns with the aircraft by pressing Ctrl + J at standard gates.

Special Aircraft Details

This twinjet developed by Boeing houses two powerful engines and can carry passengers across long distances. Thai Airways International, the flag carrier of Thailand, has historically operated a variety of 777 variants. Their signature livery includes purple and gold accents, reflecting Thailand’s rich cultural heritage. These markings combine elegantly with the wide-body’s curved fuselage and ensure high visibility on any ramp.

System Compatibility and Testing

Extensive checks were performed in FSX on Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows XP environments. Users running modern hardware or contemporary operating systems can still benefit, although direct tests outside these platforms were not confirmed. This model was never intended to be used in older platforms like FS2000 or FS2002, but it draws its lineage from those early versions.

Installation Instructions

  1. Extract and copy the enclosed “Aircraft” folder into your FSX installation. Place it under the “SimObjects/Airplanes” directory.
  2. Launch FSX. Look for the MELJET listing in the aircraft selection menu. Then pick this Thai Airways variation.
  3. All needed gauges and files come bundled. The only optional add-on for lighting is A2A 3D Lights & Redux.

This conversion preserves the spirit of the original “Meljet” release, showcasing the grandeur of the 777. Engine maintenance animations, jetway support, and crisp textures make this a well-rounded addition for those seeking a wide-body airliner with realistic handling. Developed by Melvin Rafi and upgraded for smooth FSX flight by David Grindele, it honors the heritage of both the aircraft and the passion behind it.
