This package introduces refined graphics for the default Extra 300 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, eliminating any noticeable fuzziness and restoring crisp details. Developed by Paul Craig, it replaces specific image assets so the aerobatic aircraft appears with sharper aesthetics and improved clarity. Users who enjoy the standard model in their simulator sessions will appreciate these high-quality textures.

Enhanced Visual Fidelity

The Extra 300, produced by the German-based Extra Flugzeugbau, is known for precise aerobatic maneuvers and nimble performance. With this update, every rivet and distinct color section stands out more prominently. By swapping out the original image files, the mod ensures reduced distortion, enhancing the dynamic lines and vivid hues this aircraft is famous for. Paul Craig’s approach targets the main texture files, addressing any blurriness while preserving the original layout and details provided by the simulator’s default model.

Replacing Original Files

For those new to installing texture replacements, follow these concise steps:

  1. Make a backup of your current texture folders found at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Extra300.
  2. Extract the downloaded content into a temporary directory.
  3. Open the folder named "Texture 1," then copy the file labeled Extra300s_T.dds into your simulator’s "Texture.1" directory, confirming any overwrite prompts.
  4. Repeat the preceding step for Texture.2 through Texture.4 in the same manner.

Because certain installations name or organize texture sets in a non-sequential manner, each folder includes a small reference image to help identify which file belongs in each location.

Key Notes and Setup Precision

Once these files are in place, the Extra 300 should display distinctly sharper exteriors and color transitions. Paul Craig has taken care to preserve the underlying geometry while mitigating any issues that might have led to reduced visual definition. Flight sim enthusiasts who conduct complex aerobatic maneuvers will notice the model’s lines and markings remain crisp throughout all angles of flight.
