The Lockheed VC-140B JetStar is a compact, four-engine business jet that once served as a VIP transport for the United States Air Force. Originally engineered by Lockheed to meet specialized requirements for high-ranking individuals, the design quickly attained recognition for its range and reliability. This freeware package includes Mike Stone’s JetStar model adapted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, along with textures by Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft and additional updates. Enthusiasts can fly an aircraft that, in real-world settings, was occasionally assigned as Air Force One and carried distinguished guests during the 1970s and 1980s.

Heritage of the Lockheed VC-140B JetStar

The JetStar series was introduced by Lockheed as one of the pioneering corporate jets equipped with four turbojet engines. In total, sixteen JetStars were produced for the United States Air Force as VC-140Bs, each tailored to meet the needs of VIPs. In actual service, these aircraft transported high-profile passengers, including top government and military officials. The real jet’s robust airframe offered considerable performance over mid-range distances, making it a practical choice for rapid, secure travel.

A Closer Look at the Included Package

This release incorporates several key components to ensure a comprehensive experience:

  • Base Model: Adapted from Mike Stone’s original JetStar, preserving distinctive external lines and flight dynamics.
  • Textures: High-quality liveries by Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft, reflecting authentic Air Force VIP markings.
  • Default Gauges: Utilizes the simulator’s native gauges for plug-and-play functionality.
  • Clear Canopy: Offers an unobstructed view through the cockpit, with instructions on proper configuration.
  • Panel Options: A modern GPS-equipped panel is included by default, though the original Mike Stone panel is available as an alternative by renaming the panel folder as desired.

Developers Tim “Piglet” and Mike Stone have laid the groundwork for this JetStar, while Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks provides textures and Microsoft Flight Simulator X adaptations. Remember to support a Mercy Flight in your local area and help keep important aviation services alive.

Essential Steps for Aircraft Installation

  1. Preparation: Extract all the downloaded folders to a temporary location on your system. Always protect any existing files by backing them up.
  2. Move the Aircraft Folder: Locate the “Lockheed VC-140B” folder, which should contain the model, textures, panel, ...etc. Copy or move this entire folder into your main aircraft directory. By default, the path may be:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes

  3. Confirm Folder Structure: Ensure the “Lockheed VC-140B” folder has six essential items: CFG file, AIR file, Model folder, Sound folder, Panel folder, and Textures folder. If all six are present, installation is typically correct.
  4. Panel Configuration (Optional): If you prefer Mike Stone’s original, rename the “Mike Stone panel” folder to “Panel” and replace the default panel.
