Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This freeware package offers a fictional charter variant of the JetStar II with a “Palmetto Air Service” theme, modernized for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Developed upon Mike Stone’s original framework, it retains the Lockheed design that once served the United States Air Force in VIP transport roles. Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft has provided updated textures, preserving a classic business jet feel while adding contemporary modifications. The result is a fully functional aircraft ready to be placed into your virtual hangar.

Refined JetStar Evolution for Civil and Military Origins

Lockheed’s JetStar stands out as one of the earliest business jets, capable of operating efficiently in both civilian and military applications. Initially conceived to fulfill a specialized Air Force requirement, it entered service as a VIP transport plane. Sixteen units joined the Air Force fleet, showcasing robust performance and an advanced aerodynamic profile for its time. In this freeware release, the JetStar’s heritage is carried forward through a fictional Palmetto Air Service livery, reflecting a private charter aesthetic.

Key Aircraft Details and Unique Additions

Mark Rooks has adapted the original JetStar II to include a stylish private palette for Palmetto Air Service. This package features:

  • Fully operational freeware base model: No separate downloads needed.
  • Default gauges: Ensures compatibility and ease of use within Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
  • Multiple panel options: Includes a modern panel as standard, plus the original Mike Stone panel for those seeking a retro experience.
  • Clear canopy: Offers unobstructed visuals from within the cockpit.
  • Historical insight: Contains background information and imagery reflecting the real-world Lockheed JetStar legacy.

Panel Customization

A modernized layout is provided by default for convenient GPS integration. If desired, you can remove the current “panel” folder and rename the original “Mike Stone Panel” folder to “Panel” for a more classic JetStar interface. Both options highlight different cockpit instrumentation approaches for varied flying styles.

Step-by-Step Installation Notes

  1. Unzip the files: Extract the downloaded archive onto your desktop or a temporary directory.
  2. Locate the aircraft folder: Copy the “Jetstar II Palm Air” folder and paste it into your main aircraft directory. By default, the path is:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes
  3. Verify the contents: Ensure the new aircraft folder contains six key subfolders: CFG, Airfile, Model, Sound, Panel, and Textures.
  4. Panel selection: Use the modern panel by default or switch to the original Mike Stone panel if you prefer a more traditional cockpit environment.
