This freeware scenery package thoroughly updates McGuire AFB (KWRI) near Wrightstown, New Jersey, in FSX. Meticulously crafted by Jim Cook, it refines the base layout, improves taxiway layouts, and populates the area with realistic vehicles and structures while maintaining full compatibility with stock LS objects.
Advanced Military Facilities and Expansive Ramp Areas
McGuire Air Force Base is an essential strategic location in New Jersey, historically supporting the Air Mobility Command and various transport operations. This enhancement focuses heavily on military_cargo and combat parking slots, designed to accommodate a range of larger aircraft typically stationed at McGuire. In addition, a designated fire station now appears on site, complete with fire trucks for added realism.
Realigned Aprons and Taxiways
Jim Cook has meticulously adjusted apron boundaries, taxiway widths, and approach paths in alignment with references from AirNav diagrams and satellite imagery. These improvements mirror actual air base layouts, giving pilots a refined sense of realism when maneuvering on the ground. The revised geometry ensures that aircraft taxi flows match real-world procedures as closely as possible.
Dynamic and Static Elements
- Multiple static vehicles, including fork trucks and fuel trucks, positioned in logical service areas.
- Extended parking areas with added lighting to make night operations more authentic.
- New and better-placed base buildings, replacing default structures to replicate the functional layout found at McGuire.
Optional Compatibility
Although no external libraries are needed—only default FSX objects are used—this updated airport also integrates well with popular packages such as Just Flight’s Military Plus Packs. For users running Ultimate Terrain or FSGenesis landclass, the developer confirms that these scenery packages further enhance the overall visuals without causing any conflicts.
Reference Sources
All changes align with AirNav resources and Google Earth visuals. Jim Cook carried out the modifications using Flight 1’s AFX program for airport data adjustments and Instant Scenery for object placement. These tools allow for precise editing and maximize the realism of the final result.
