Experience a refined environment at Davison Army Air Field (KDAA) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, with these carefully upgraded scenery details by Jim Cook. This freeware release introduces enhanced ground layouts, a remodeled selection of buildings, and dedicated spaces for military aircraft, all reflecting a commitment to realism and operational accuracy.

Extended Visual and Operational Adjustments

Davison AAF supports the U.S. Army's aviation needs, and this enhancement package highlights its active infrastructure. Jim Cook has replaced much of the default architecture with more authentic structures and inserted carefully positioned hangars, administrative buildings, and static vehicles. He has also ensured that taxiways and ramps align with actual flight charts, leading to improved realism.

Key Enhancements for Military Flights

Combat and Cargo Parking

Specialized parking spots have been introduced for cargo and rotary-wing operations. These locations accommodate large military transports and combat aircraft, ensuring a realistic workflow and proper ramp space.

Advanced Fire and Rescue Facilities

The scene now includes a dedicated fire station equipped with firefighting units, capturing the vital role of flight-line safety. This woven-in detail reflects the base’s readiness to handle emergencies around the clock.

Building Replacements and Additional Details

Many default buildings were removed or substituted, and extra facilities have been included. Static ground vehicles, helicopter operations areas, light poles, and parking lots were strategically placed to depict the vibrant atmosphere typical of an active Army airfield in Fairfax County.

Compatibility and Reference Data

All objects utilize the native FSX library, so no additional downloads are necessary. The developer tested this scenery with Just Flight’s Military Plus Packs, along with Ultimate Terrain and FSGenesis landclass, although these add-ons remain optional. Layout updates are based on current AirNav charts and satellite imagery, ensuring local accuracy.

Installation Instructions

  • Extract both AFX_KDAA_JC.bgl and KDAA_JC.bgl into your main “Addon Scenery/Scenery” directory.
  • Restart FSX to apply the new layout.

Jim Cook notes that he will continue to explore updates for additional Army airfields when possible. This refined Davison AAF scenery is a step forward in capturing the daily operations of a bustling military installation without sacrificing performance or authenticity.
