Experience a detailed reconfiguration of California’s Metropolitan Oakland International Airport (KOAK) designed by Kambiz Agazi. This freeware enhancement for Microsoft Flight Simulator X modifies core components of the default airport. It reorganizes taxiways, aprons, and parking spots, while also adding new approach procedures to enrich every phase of flight. Below, you will find an in-depth look at its notable features, compatibility considerations, and installation requirements.

Refined Layout and Expanded Facilities

Oakland International, positioned near the dynamic San Francisco Bay, serves as an important West Coast gateway for both passenger and cargo operations. The developer has introduced carefully adjusted vehicle paths and ramp markings, ensuring straightforward taxi flows. Cargo aprons now accommodate overflow operations, mirroring real-world configurations drawn from satellite imagery. Furthermore, the extension of Terminal 2 includes additional gates that align with modern traffic patterns, while updates to the older portion remove one gate to match current usage.

Approach Systems and Runway Configuration

All runways remain fully active, reflecting the airport’s actual traffic management. Lighting enhancements, approach markings, and blastpads follow real-world data gathered from AirNav charts and maps. Notably, Runways 11, 29, and 27R feature reworked ILS approaches based on the most up-to-date instrument plates. Missed approach procedures are also integrated to ensure faithful navigation performance when simulating IFR events.

Surrounding Landclass Adjustments

Landclass details in the airport vicinity have been fine-tuned to align with publicly available images. This effort involves repositioning terrain elements and improving the visual environment around KOAK. A newly relocated south control tower further contributes to an authentic atmosphere.

Installation Notes and Priority Guidance

Two .bgl files (KOAK_KA.bgl and KOAK_KA_CVX.bgl) are provided with this enhancement:

  • Extract and place both files in an active scenery folder of your choosing (for instance, Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\Scenery).
  • Enable the folder in the simulator’s scenery library and confirm it is set above any broader regional or local products, including UTX USA.
  • To remove this content, simply delete the files from that folder.

Although tested primarily under FSX SP2, there are no immediate concerns regarding use with earlier service packs. Visuals can vary slightly depending on a user’s graphics configuration and installed add-ons. The package has also been reviewed alongside UTX USA, Scenery Tech North America, and FS Genesis USA 10m Mesh to ensure compatibility.

AI Traffic Optimization

This freeware scenery has been tuned for MyTraffic X 5.2 and WOAI to assign correct airlines to gates and terminals as documented in local references. Although it should function seamlessly with other AI traffic solutions, gate allocation may vary if you rely on packages that differ significantly in their traffic or flight data.

Development Tools and Special Acknowledgments

All new airport adjustments were accomplished with the ADE (Airport Design Editor) utility by Jon Masterson. The approach data derives from the most current plates and leverages the approach code module in ADE, thanks to the contributions of Jim Vile. These resources enabled a precise recreation of instrument procedures, including final and missed approaches for the runways.

While every effort has been made to ensure realism, some minor imperfections can persist in any custom scenery. Should you detect any major glitches, please reach out to the author. This mod represents a comprehensive upgrade to one of California’s primary airports and promises an immersive environment for both general aviation and commercial flyers.

Happy Flying!
