The ATR 42-500 Base Pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator X brings a compact twin-turboprop model designed primarily for AI traffic, yet it carries a high degree of visual detail. This rendition by Oskari Syynimaa includes the original house paint scheme, faithful flight dynamics (FDE), and carefully crafted animations that highlight the ATR’s well-known efficiency.

Focused Liftoff and Landing Design

The ATR 42-500 is appreciated worldwide for its short-hop performance and dependable handling, particularly on regional routes. In this add-on, the in-simulator model benefits from an array of detailed animations, which integrate seamlessly into Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Adjustable flaps enable accurate short-field procedures, while the retractable main gear incorporates compression effects on touchdown. One notable feature, often overlooked by traffic models, is the fully functional turning nose wheel, which lends extra realism to AI traffic movements on the ramp and taxiways.

Efficient Lod Models

To ensure respectable frame rates, six separate Levels of Detail (LOD) are included. These LOD layers dynamically streamline rendering, particularly in dense airport environments. The aircraft’s visual fidelity scales smoothly when AI traffic is busy, so performance remains stable even under higher simulator loads.

Repaint Compatibility

Although built primarily for FSX, this model accommodates repaints released for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Users can enjoy existing liveries originally created for the earlier platform. The house livery is already included, seamlessly integrated with this aircraft’s structure.

Installation Process

  1. Expand the osp_atr_42_500 folder into the core “Aircraft” directory of your simulator.
  2. Keep in mind that this package is meant for AI operations, so it remains hidden from the usual aircraft selection menu.

Paintkit Accessibility

If you plan to create your own liveries, a dedicated paintkit (known as osp_atr_42_paintkit.zip) is available. This resource helps repaint designers accurately match the fuselage contours and engine nacelles of the ATR 42-500.
