Expert Overview

This enhanced FSX Concorde add-on brings a legendary supersonic airliner into Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D. It features an authentically modeled virtual cockpit, fully animated exterior elements, and high-definition textures that really capture the sleek lines of the original jet. With 18 liveries in one package, including fictional favorites like Air Canada and Alitalia, this comprehensive freeware project offers an engaging experience for fans of vintage aviation and modern simming alike.

Beyond the stunning 3D model, users can explore realistic flight dynamics, functional gauges, and immersive sound effects that highlight Concorde’s iconic afterburners. Essential avionics such as FMC, TCAS, and weather radar round out the cockpit, while the detailed animations (including the signature nose droop) add another level of authenticity. In my experience, this mod delivers both nostalgia for aviation history and a genuinely polished flight simulation experience.

This aircraft was one of the most legendary aircraft on the planet until its demise after many technical faults. You can still fly this beautiful aircraft in the virtual world.

Brief History

The Concorde first took to the skies in the 60s and became an iconic airliner for the rich and the famous. It was ahead of its time; flying at supersonic speeds, this was the first passenger aircraft of its kind.

The first passenger flights began in 1976 and completed 27 years of service until it was taken out of the skies and retired in 2003 after a series of incidents and crashes that caused concern. It was too expensive to keep such old technology in the skies, and while it was advanced at the time of manufacture, everything was still mechanical and not computerized, and upgrading the whole aircraft fleet would have been too expensive for the operators.

Concorde was a brilliant technological Franco-British cooperation that led to the most advanced supersonic airliner ever built.  Concorde entered commercial service in January 1976 and continued flying for the next 27 years.  Air France and British Airways were the only two operators with a fleet of 7 aircrafts each.  The type was retired in 2003.

Installation

  1. Extract the zip archive in the folder of your choice.

In the folder Concorde FSXP3D Native, you should find 5 folders: "Simobjects", "Effects", "Gauges", "Sound", and "Manuals".

  • Copy/Paste the complete Airplanes folder inside the SimObjects folder in your flight simulator (FSX/P3D) SimObjects folder.
  • Copy/Paste the content of the Effects folder in your FSX or P3D Effects folder.
  • Copy/paste the content of the Gauges folder in your FSX or P3D Gauges folder.
  • Copy/paste the content of the Sound folder in your FSX or P3D Sound folder.

Note: You may need the Administrator's permission to do the above.

  • Launch FSX or P3D, Select your new Concorde, and go flying!
  • The Manuals folder contains further documentation on the Concorde.

TESTING ENVIRONMENT

This aircraft was tested in Windows 7 x64. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Steam Edition. Microsoft Flight Simulator X + Acceleration Pack. DX9 and DX10 Preview Mode with SteveFX DX10 Scenery Fixer v3.5.  Testing was also performed (and confirmed compatible) in Lockheed Martin Prepar3D v4 and Prepar3D v5 by Fly Away Simulation.

DESIGN TOOLS

  • Textures painted with Paint.net.
  • Textures converted with MWGraphic's DXTBmp.
  • Lights and Effects created with FXEditor.
  • Sounds edited with Ocenaudio.
  • Air file edited with AAM v2.2.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per the readme

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

I want to play it because it is the best simulator in the world—10 out of 10—so, well, Yeferson is the best.

The automatic throttle stops working at an altitude of 50–60 thousand feet. Anyone know why?

Do you have instructions for this plane?

This is an amazing add-on! I would recommend it to anyone willing to wait around 3 hours if they don't have a pro, either way, it's so good. Keep doing what you are doing creator of this mod.

Not bad. It's a thrill going to Hawaii from California in under an hour or to Europe from the US east coast in 4 hours as well as exploring other routes the Concord was never able to fly just to see how fast it can go to some locations.

It does have its issues. It can't seem to reach the true max cruising speed and has issues reaching its max altitude. For example, I'll make it to 50,000 feet and try to keep the speed at max but it lowers to 530 knots. This could just be the sloppy physics or programming of FSX getting in the way.

Also, the fact the nose controls are programmed into the flaps controls is terrible. I'd rather the flaps and nose controls be separate. They do let us custom map the nose controls in FSX so there is literally no need to program the flaps controls to operate the nose.

The autopilot is a tad wonky and a bit confusing; why does it need two autothrottle switches and why does it have an auto land button you can't even use?

There is also no obvious Nav/GPS toggle in the VC or 2D cockpit. I have to do that solely with a physical key or panel command. Not saying it doesn't work but lots of improvements could be made to make this addon so much better and more realistic.

Can I transfer the Concorde folder/files from my old Flight Sim 2000 to FSX and make it work? Thanks and regards.

How do you turn on the afterburners? I installed the effects and pressed shift f4 but nothing happened.

This Concorde flies like a dream.

With the afterburners turned on it has a real kick on takeoff. I use Flight Sim Commander to take care of navigation and enjoy flying historic flights across the Atlantic. You have to set your game time so that it won't be dark where you land because you can not see out of the cockpit at night.

Flaps work to lower the nose and Shift F4 toggles the afterburners on and off. You can also press the afterburner switches at the base of the throttles in the cockpit. It is a great plane for online flying and people are always happy to see a Concorde.

This plane doesn't have INS capability so either you miss the realism of that part, or be thankful that you are saving time.

It's "OK" at best. The afterburn effect is dinky compared to the size of the engines and makes it look silly. The VCs are passable and better than a lot of others but still don't quite do the Concorde justice.

Well despite all the criticism, for me it is an incredible piece of work especially when I remember taking my wife and two sons for an afternoon jaunt on it nearly 30 years ago, courtesy of Goodwood Travel......Roger.
