FSX Colored Smoke System

Colored smoke trails bring airshow-style visuals to any aircraft, using a lightweight gauge that spawns smoke effects from selectable airframe positions and ties five color options to standard light switches. Designed for FSX and tested with the PC-7Astra setup, it supports flexible configuration for different models with clear bilingual documentation.

Based on a great idea from Lucas Sichardt I have developed a gauge which generates in different colores a trail of smoke. The smoke will be generated on individual positions of the aircraft by using smoke effects. The parameter settings in this documentation are for the aircraft PC-7Astra . The PC-7 model can be downloaded from AVSIM. However, the gauge can be installed for any aircraft. The aircraft light function elements heve been used for this implementation. The following light function have been used in order to generate 5 color configurations: 1. Recocnition 2. Cabin 3. Logo 4. Wing 5. Cockpit Restriction: By using this lights for smoke generation, the corresponding aircraft should not have this light switchen, or not using those. Installation: For installation details, pls read the ReadMe documentation whiche is included in the zip file. The documentation is in german and english language.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per the readme

Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

FINALLY got this add-on to work using my P47 aircraft - had to switch the [WINDOW10] to [WINDOW08] so shift+9 would bring it up...

The 'smoke' button still only showing up on TRUMP747 for some reason (but there it brings up the wrong gauge)...

REAL nice though - cool smoke trails for sky writing... fun w/FSX!!!

I installed this smoke system on three aircraft:

    • F14
    • Corsair F4F
    • Trump 747

None of the panels showed up in the cockpits of the first two. On the third, the 'smoke' button appeared, but it only popped up the main panel with horizon... no smoke panel.

    Really poorly documented add-on - disappointed :-P
