FSX Boeing 747-8F Freighter Gray Engine Smoke

Boeing 747-8F freighter engine smoke effects add convincing gray exhaust or optional white airshow-style smoke for the freeware Project Open Sky model in FSX, enhancing departures, flybys, and runway rollouts. Requires a preinstalled POSKY 747-8F with the virtual cockpit, then toggles smoke cleanly in-flight for a polished visual touch.

CREDITS:

1.) The Project Opensky team, for many wonderful
freeware flightsim offerings over the years!

2.) The original author of the "fx_smoke_f6" gray smoke file,
whoever you are.

3.) Microsoft, for the "fx_smoke_w" white airshow smoke file.

4.) I take no credit for any of this. Enjoy the smoke!

INSTALLATION:

1.) Open your 747-8F "aircraft.cfg" file, scroll down
to the [smokesystem] entry, and erase it, as it will
not display properly in FSX.

2.) Choose gray engine exhaust smoke or white airshow engine
exhaust smoke from the two [SMOKESYSTEM] choices found
below. Then copy and paste your chosen [SMOKESYSTEM] info.
found below back into your "aircraft.cfg" file, replacing
what you just erased. Then click 'file', then click
'save', of course.

3.) If you have chosen gray smoke, copy and paste (or
drag and drop) the enclosed "fx_smoke_f6" file into
your FSX "Effects" folder (it is probably there already).

4.) If you have chosen the white airshow smoke, copy and paste (or
drag and drop) the enclosed "fx_smoke_w" file into
your FSX "Effects" folder (it is most definately there already).

5.) This gray smoke hides inside of the engines, so you
only have to press your "I" key once as you begin
your takeoff. Once rolling, the smoke will begin to
pour out the back of the engines. When you land and
roll to a stop, the smoke will disappear back inside
of the engines.

6.) This white airshow smoke does not hide inside of the engines,
so press your "I" key on or off whenever you want to turn
the white smoke on or off.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D aircraft
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Copy aircraft files into SimObjects

Place the aircraft folder inside FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\. The folder must contain an aircraft.cfg file. Effects go into FSX\Effects\; gauges go into FSX\Gauges\.
  3. Verify in FSX

Launch FSX, go to Free Flight → Select Aircraft and find your new aircraft under its manufacturer.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
