FSX / P3D scenery

FSX Mount Everest Scenery

Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayas gain sharp, high-resolution terrain with unified .bgl-based textures for consistent loading in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The package blends cleanly with Aerosoft Lukla X for natural transitions around Lukla, and optional higher-detail mesh further enhances ridgelines, valleys, and summit contours for dramatic mountain flying.

Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

Experience the dramatic terrain of Nepal’s Mount Everest region with crisp elevation details and a seamless interface for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This freeware scenery, developed by Frank Dainese, offers a comprehensive upgrade to the iconic mountain range and integrates smoothly with your existing flight simulator environment. It includes two consolidated parts, delivering a complete visual re-creation of the highest peak on Earth and surroundings—all in sharp, high-resolution detail.

Elevated Rendering of the Himalayan Landscape

This custom scenery pack is meticulously designed to provide an authentic depiction of Everest’s challenging slopes and its adjacent valleys. Multiple .bgl files contain the necessary textures, eliminating the need for separate texture installations. This means you can expect reliable loading and uniform quality throughout your flight sessions.

Optional Mesh for Enhanced Terrain Fidelity

Although the scenery works on its own, it is highly advised to combine it with the Himalayas LOD10 mesh by Holger Sandmann and Jonathan de Ferranti (known under the filename fs_him_01.zip). Their higher-resolution terrain data brings out the full topographical complexity of the region, especially the steep ridges and gulches around Everest that flight enthusiasts find so captivating.

Seamless Compatibility with Lukla X

A notable feature of this pack is its full coordination with Aerosoft Lukla X. Lukla airport, famously perched on a short runway, is frequently used as the gateway to Everest expeditions. Pilots who already have Lukla X installed will see an unbroken transition from the airport area to the rugged Himalayan surroundings. This blend delivers a consistent visual presentation when approaching or departing from one of the world’s most famous airstrips.

Streamlined Installation Process

  • Unpack the provided folder into your existing Addon Scenery directory.
  • Activate this new scenery layer within your simulator’s scenery library interface.
  • Arrange the layer’s positioning as desired for optimal rendering, taking care not to overwrite other essential add-ons.

Verifying Texture Incorporation

All high-resolution textures come pre-packaged in the included .bgl files, so you do not have to install or configure any extra texture folders. Once placed in the hierarchy, the entire Mount Everest massif should appear in enhanced detail.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
