How do I fix “Aircraft loading failed” in MSFS 2024?

Ian Stephens
In short

Fix the “The loading of your aircraft failed” error in MSFS 2024 by isolating add-ons, repairing aircraft content and resetting streamed data.

In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, “The loading of your aircraft failed” usually means the selected aircraft package, livery, dependency or streamed data could not initialise. Test a default aircraft at a default airport, disable add-ons, confirm online services, clear the rolling cache, then repair only the package that fails the controlled test.

Fix the aircraft loading error in this order

  1. Quit MSFS 2024 completely. Do not resume a suspended session. Close it from the system menu on Xbox to bypass Quick Resume, or close the game fully on PlayStation. Restart the PC or power-cycle the console, then install any available simulator and content updates.
  2. Run a controlled stock test. Choose an aircraft supplied with your edition, its default livery and a small airport without add-on scenery. Avoid imported flight plans and Career Mode for this test. If this flight loads, the core simulator works and an aircraft, livery, dependency or scenery package is causing the error.
  3. Remove third-party content temporarily. On PC, close the simulator and move everything out of the active Community folder, or rename that folder so MSFS creates an empty one. On Xbox and PlayStation, disable recently installed optional or Marketplace content through the available library or content controls. If Safe Mode is offered after a crash, test it once.
  4. Restore add-ons in small groups. Start with the aircraft alone, followed by its required avionics or library packages, then liveries. A mistake we see constantly is reinstalling the aircraft while leaving an incompatible livery active. If the error returns, the last restored group contains the culprit.
  5. Repair the affected aircraft package. Open its entry in My Library or the platform's content controls. Where the option is available, disable or remove its local download, restart the simulator, then enable or download it again. Confirm that the base aircraft and every stated dependency are owned, enabled and compatible with MSFS 2024.
  6. Refresh streamed content. MSFS 2024 relies heavily on online data, so check that online functionality is enabled, any in-sim data allowance has not been exhausted and the correct entitled account is signed in. Delete and recreate the Rolling Cache from the online or data settings where that control is available. Our explanation of MSFS 2024's connection and streamed-content requirements covers what can fail when the network is restricted.
  7. Repair core files last. If several default aircraft fail at several default airports, use the PC platform's Verify or Repair function. Choose Repair before any destructive Reset option. On a console, check managed game content and free storage, then power-cycle the machine; reinstall the complete simulator only after the non-destructive checks fail.

What does the failure pattern tell you?

The pattern of failure usually identifies the broken component faster than repeatedly reinstalling the simulator.

What failsMost likely causeNext test
One livery onlyOutdated or damaged liveryLoad the aircraft's default livery
One aircraft with every liveryAircraft package or missing dependencyDisable, update and re-enable that aircraft and its libraries
All add-on aircraft, but default aircraft workCommunity or third-party content conflictTest with an empty Community folder or Safe Mode
Any aircraft at one airportAirport or nearby scenery conflictUse the same aircraft at an unmodified default airport
Every aircraft at every airportStreaming, account entitlement, cache or core installation problemCheck online data, clear the cache and repair core files

The message can blame the aircraft even when scenery prevents the flight session from being created. If every stock combination still fails, follow our broader stock-aircraft and default-airport loading checks before reinstalling.

Why does the error appear after an MSFS update?

A simulator update can expose an aircraft, avionics package, livery or compiled module that still expects the previous interface. Update every dependency together, remove duplicate copies and do not leave one version in the Community folder while another is enabled through Marketplace content.

For an aircraft that worked before an update, use our package-by-package checks for add-ons broken by MSFS updates. If a complex aircraft freezes, crashes or returns to the menu while initialising its systems, the more specific WASM module isolation procedure is the better route.

Will emptying the Community folder delete my aircraft?

Moving or renaming the Community folder temporarily disables its contents; it does not delete them. Marketplace packages are normally managed separately. Keep the original files outside the active package path and copy them back only after the stock test succeeds.

Should I reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?

Reinstall MSFS 2024 only if default aircraft fail at default airports with all optional content disabled, online access working, the rolling cache cleared and core files repaired. Reinstallation rarely fixes an incompatible Community package or a temporary streaming problem, and restoring every add-on immediately can recreate the same error.
