AFCAD File For CYVR

Vancouver International Airport (CYVR) gets a smarter, more current AFCAD layout with corrected gate assignments, extended terminal parking, updated taxiways and signage, refined service-road and vehicle routing, plus two helipad start points. Built with Airport Design Editor for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it also offers an optional crosswind-runway configuration for livelier AI operations.

This freeware package brings a refined AFCAD layout to Vancouver International Airport (CYVR) in British Columbia, Canada, specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It incorporates new gate assignments, extended terminal features, and crosswind runway functionality when desired. Developed by Ray Smith, this modification leverages the Airport Design Editor (ADE) to enhance the default scenery, including updated taxi paths, support vehicle routes, and helipad start points. The adjustments collectively provide a more immersive experience of Canada’s second-busiest airport, situated near the Fraser River and serving as a major hub for trans-Pacific travel.

Detailed AFCAD Enhancements for CYVR

This modified AFCAD makes use of advanced design parameters to optimize runway usage and parking assignments. By default, Vancouver International Airport handles heavy commercial, cargo, and GA traffic, so the files are structured to accommodate these demands efficiently. Here, you will find:

  • Extended Terminal D – Provides realistic parking spots aligned with current airline assignments.
  • Extra Fuel Trucks – Supports larger aircraft volumes while reducing ground congestion.
  • Updated Taxiway Signs – Mirrors current airport charts to simplify navigation across the apron and taxi routes.
  • Refined Ground Support Roads – Helps AI traffic and vehicles move seamlessly between terminals and service areas.
  • Helipad Start Locations – Supplies two functional helicopter departure points with accurate placement.

File Variations

Within this release, there are three BGL files, each located in the package:

CYVR_ADE_RS.BGL
Adopts the default single-runway operation approach for arrivals and departures.
CYVR_ADE_CW_RS.BGL
Enables crosswind runway functionality, allowing multiple runways to handle takeoff and landing simultaneously.
CYVR_ADE_OBJ.BGL
Contains supplementary object placements, ensuring the advanced features (such as extended terminals) appear correctly in the simulator.

Configuring and Installing This Modification

  1. Choose one runway operation file: either CYVR_ADE_RS.BGL or CYVR_ADE_CW_RS.BGL. Place it into: Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery.
  2. After that, copy CYVR_ADE_OBJ.BGL into: Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery.
  3. Boot up Microsoft Flight Simulator X. You should see the revised layout when loading CYVR.

Note: Only keep one of the runway operation files in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder at any point to avoid parking mismatches or AI traffic conflicts.

Cautions and Compatibility

  • If you have AI traffic add-ons, ensure they have not installed a different AFCAD for CYVR, as this causes interference.
  • With the CYVR_ADE_CW_RS.BGL crosswind option, ATIS may list additional “fake” runways. This is normal and needed to activate crosswind runway use. If this is undesirable, revert to CYVR_ADE_RS.BGL.

Removal or Reversion

  1. Simply remove the CYVR_ADE_RS.BGL or CYVR_ADE_CW_RS.BGL and CYVR_ADE_OBJ.BGL from their respective folders.
  2. The default airport setup becomes active once again.

Enjoy this carefully crafted AFCAD developed by Ray Smith, and explore the scenic approaches of Vancouver’s coastal airspace with enhanced precision.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D AFCAD file
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place AFCAD file

AFCAD files (AF2_*.bgl or AFX_*.bgl) go into FSX\Addon Scenery\Scenery\ or a dedicated AFCAD folder you create.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
