This release features a specialized McDonnell Douglas MD-11 for FS2004 showcasing Delta Airlines’ centennial paintwork. Created by iFDG and textured by Alex Siu, it presents the iconic trijet silhouette, comprehensive animations, reflective exteriors, and an authentic lighting setup for virtual long-haul operations.

Distinctive Wide-Cabin Trijet Configuration

Renowned as a modern three-engined widebody, the MD-11 emerged from McDonnell Douglas’ Long Beach assembly lines. Its frame accommodates up to 285 passengers in a triple-class arrangement or 410 in a dense layout. Beneath the cabin, operators benefit from notable cargo volume, enabling extensive freight storage alongside passenger luggage. This space flexibility can be vital for airlines striving to optimize both workloads and profitability on intercontinental routes.

Enhanced Aerodynamics and Range

Developers integrated advanced winglets, refined wing trailing edges, and a reduced tailplane incorporating integral subterranean fuel containment. These aerodynamic additions reduce drag, thereby boosting overall efficiency. In typical operations, the standard MD-11 travels up to 7,630 statute miles (12,270 km), while the ER variant—featuring higher takeoff weights and added fuel reserves—extends that reach to approximately 8,225 statute miles (13,230 km). This configuration suits lengthy overseas legs, delivering reliable performance.

Powerplant and Performance

Users can explore three engine choices: Pratt & Whitney PW4460, Pratt & Whitney PW4462, or General Electric CF6-80C2. Each delivers suitable thrust while balancing fuel intake demands. When day-to-day airline operations require high-capacity, long-range connectivity, these powerplants enhance climb rates, reduce turnaround times, and maintain stable flight characteristics across various altitude levels.

Advanced Flight Controls

Aside from the trijet format, the cockpit design incorporates multiple cathode ray tube displays and a dual digital automatic flight control system. These state-of-the-art (in its era) features minimize pilot workload through computerized checklists and wind-shear alerts. The interlinked control columns augment collective situational awareness, an essential aspect during dynamic flight phases such as departures and arrivals.

Visual Modeling Effects

The iFDG model highlights extensive external animations spanning flaps, flaperons, moving stabilizers, and comprehensive lighting. Reflective textures enhance realism, while wingviews give simmers a glimpse of in-flight behavior. This rendition suits aviation enthusiasts or more technical users eager to delve into accurate operational handling.
