Kawasaki’s C-1 military transport and EC-1 electronic warfare trainer arrive in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with a crisp exterior model, animated gear and cargo doors, and authentic markings with subtle weathering. The package emphasizes responsive turbofan thrust, STOL-friendly handling, and a practical analog-focused virtual cockpit suited to tactical cargo and training sorties.
This freeware release brings a fully realized rendition of Kawasaki’s compact military transport jet to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. The design, originally created through a collaboration involving NAMC (notable for the YS-11) and later mass-produced by Kawasaki, features powerful twin-engine propulsion and an exceptionally flexible short-takeoff-and-landing profile. Developed by the creative minds led by T. Nishimoto and team, this package also incorporates the EC-1 variant, which functions as the airborne electronic warfare trainer.
The included aircraft model accurately captures the robust fuselage and distinctive wing geometry, reflecting its real-world utility in rapid military cargo missions. Only 31 units were constructed for service, and their longstanding reputation stems from reliable turbofan performance paired with efficient STOL (short takeoff and landing) capabilities. Pilots can expect a faithful recreation of thrust response and wing lift characteristics under variable load conditions.
This Kawasaki C-1 simulation provides a meticulously designed exterior shape, highlighting the wide cargo door and a streamlined nose profile. Internally, the cockpit arrangement blends analog gauges with essential avionics, ensuring a straightforward but immersive experience for experienced virtual pilots. The flight panel is optimized for tactical operations, with clear instrument readability that supports both low-altitude and high-speed missions.
Alongside the primary transport jet, this freeware package includes the EC-1 variant. This specialized version retains the core features of the C-1 while integrating electronic warfare training equipment. Such modifications emphasize advanced scenario planning, allowing simmers to replicate the intricate tasks of communications jamming or radar interference drills, echoing the aircraft’s real-world utility in Japan’s defense objectives.
The real-world Kawasaki C-1 emerged to support the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s logistical needs, fulfilling transport missions across short runways. Its ability to operate from constrained fields made it a go-to platform for swift deployments and cargo deliveries. Over time, operators leveraged its potent turbofan engines and agile flight profile for various tactical applications, which this simulation strives to replicate with fidelity.
Below is a preview image showcasing the model’s exterior definition and paint scheme:

Created by T. Nishimoto and colleagues, this freeware project highlights a commitment to replicating a lesser-modeled military platform. Every aspect, from the aerodynamic refinements to the inclusion of training-specific avionics in the EC-1, displays the meticulous care devoted by the development team to accurately simulate these aircraft for enthusiasts on Fly Away Simulation.
