This repaint showcases CF-TGE after it was upgraded to L-1049E standards and adorned with a distinctive white upper fuselage. It features historic Trans-Canada Air Lines markings and was painstakingly created by Matthew Anderson, relying on the freeware Lockheed Super G Constellation model devised by Manfred Jahn and his team. This package is designed exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

Evolution of CF-TGE in TCA’s Fleet

Lockheed’s L-1049E, commonly referenced as one of the “Super Constellation” variants, gained prominence in the piston-engine era by offering long-range passenger transport. Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) operated multiple examples of the Super Constellation family, with CF-TGE among them. Originally delivered as an L-1049C in 1954, CF-TGE later underwent upgrades into L-1049E form and eventually L-1049G standards as the airline optimized its fleet. TCA, a major Canadian carrier, initiated fleet replacements in 1961 by introducing Douglas DC-8 jets. It rebranded as Air Canada in 1968, marking a new chapter in its operations.

In more recent history, CF-TGE was acquired by the Museum of Flight in Seattle and has been restored to its classic TCA livery, complete with the white top. This airframe, known for bridging early transcontinental travel under TCA, represents a cherished piece of Canadian aviation heritage. Eventually, CF-TGE should be placed on exhibition at the museum if coverage for the airpark area is achieved.

Important Notes on the Required Base Model

This repaint example does not contain the original Super G Constellation base package. In order to operate properly, you must have the Lockheed Super G freeware model designed by Manfred Jahn and his team. You can locate that base package in the Fly Away Simulation library. Once you have acquired the correct model installed, proceed with the steps below to incorporate this repaint safely into your simulator setup.

Steps for Installing the CF-TGE Texture Set

  1. Locate the primary “Lockheed_L1049” folder in your aircraft directory. For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, browse to the Aircraft folder and open “Lockheed_L1049.”
  2. Copy the folder labeled texture.tge included here and paste it into “Lockheed_L1049.”
  3. Edit the aircraft.cfg file in that same “Lockheed_L1049” folder and insert the following block of text, ensuring you use the next available [fltsim.X] number:

[fltsim.X]
title=Lockheed L-1049E Trans-Canada Air Lines

Went through many owners between 1961-2005. It was sold to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington in 2005. It was restored between 2007 to 2009 back in her TCA colors. She is now sitting in Seattle, Washington ready to be put on display."

Replace the “X” in [fltsim.X] with the subsequent figure in your configuration. For instance, if the highest current entry reads [fltsim.3], use 4. If it ends at [fltsim.7], then continue with 8 instead.

Optional Front Nosewheel Hubcaps

You can activate the nosewheel hubcaps by switching texture files inside the texture.tge folder. First, delete or rename the existing wings_t file. Then, rename wings_t(alternate) to wings_t. This substitution will display the front nosewheel hubcaps correctly in the simulator.

This repaint affords an authentic Trans-Canada Air Lines visual experience, bringing a refined L-1049E into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Matthew Anderson’s modifications revive an important piece of Canada’s aviation heritage, ensuring flight simmers can explore the triple-tail silhouette of this iconic Lockheed airliner with authentic historical markings.

Requires dependencies

This add-on may require the following files to function properly. If this is a repaint, the dependency below is likely the base aircraft package.

How to install this mod

FS2004 add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place files per readme

    FS2004 add-ons go into FS9\Aircraft\, FS9\Addon Scenery\, FS9\Gauges\, or FS9\Effects\.
  3. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
