FS2004 PAA Convair CV-240 VBF CB-16 N90656

Pan American World Airways’ Convair CV-240 N90656 comes alive in this faithful repaint, capturing late-1940s markings and period-correct details for authentic short-to-medium route flying in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Crisp textures and an updated model presentation complement the classic airliner, and it requires CV240VBFCB16_BASEPACK_010.ZIP.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

This repaint showcases a classic Convair CV-240 that originally joined Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) in the late 1940s. It has been meticulously adapted for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with authentic markings (registration N90656) and requires the CV240VBFCB16_BASEPACK_010.ZIP freeware base model, which is available in the Fly Away Simulation mod library. Developed by Greg Pepper and Tom Gibson, then further refined by Georg Hauzenberger (model) and Hans Hermann (textures) at Virtual Birds Factory, this livery recreates the historic airliner that Pan Am once operated on short-to-medium-range routes before it moved on to other carriers.

Historical Insight on the Airframe

This particular aircraft, bearing construction number 14, was delivered to Pan American World Airways on September 30, 1948. Registered as N90656, it eventually moved to VARIG in November 1957 and was re-registered as PP-VCV. During its service, it facilitated regional travel until it was withdrawn from use and dismantled at Sao Paulo-Congonhas in May of 1970.

Livery Specifics and Base Model Requirements

These textures and the associated updated model file are provided separately from the required base package. The CV240VBFCB16_BASEPACK_010.ZIP installation is mandatory for proper functionality, and that base pack can be found in Fly Away Simulation’s library. Once the base pack is in place, the following content delivers a Pan Am-themed repaint replicating N90656 during its operational timeline.

Procedure for Installing the Repaint

  1. Extract the included ZIP file to a temporary folder.
  2. Locate and run the setup file (for example, cv240VBFca18_aal_N94200_01_setup.exe) from within the extracted folder. The installer places the correct livery files in either “cv240VBFca18”, “cv240VBFcb16”, or “cv240VBFmilitary”, based on the model variant.
  3. Go to the “Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\cv240VBFca18”, “Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\cv240VBFcb16”, or “Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\cv240VBFmilitary” folder, depending on which one the installer used. Inside that folder, open the file named “(livery name)_add_to_aircraft_cfg.txt” with a text editor.
  4. Copy the [fltsim.xx] section from that text file and paste it into your main aircraft.cfg in the same folder, right below the last existing [fltsim.yy] entry. Be sure to adjust the numbering so it follows on sequentially. Save and close.

Verifying Successful Installation

If you do not see the Pan Am Convair option in your aircraft selection, verify that you have placed the files in the correct “cv240VBF…” folder and that you have installed the correct base pack. Confirm the path to your main Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 directory is correct and ensure no folder names were altered. Once properly set, your newly installed repaint should be visible and ready for flight.
