This package offers a set of fictional Red Devils repaints depicting how VMFA-232 (United States Marine Corps) might look if they switched from their F/A-18C aircraft to the Lockheed Martin F-35C variant, intended for carrier operations. Created by S. Peterson, this repaint collection is optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and applies to the freeware Dino Cattaneo F-35C model. It includes four distinct liveries that capture the Red Devils’ iconic markings. Be sure to download the base F-35C package from the Fly Away Simulation library before installing these textures.
Key Elements of the Red Devils Livery
The Red Devils livery adds USMC-inspired squadron motifs, fuselage markings, and tail insignias consistent with VMFA-232 operations. Although these skins are fictional, they integrate squadron colors and detailing that align with the unit’s historic aesthetic. With each repaint, unique aircraft identifiers are used to differentiate the four jets.
Squadron Background [VMFA-232]
VMFA-232, also called the Red Devils, is known for its long Marine Corps aviation heritage. Historically flying F/A-18C jets, this squadron portrays the Marine Corps’ dedication to power projection from both land bases and carriers. In this fictional scenario, the F-35C (carrier-based variant of the fifth-generation strike fighter) has replaced older airframes, offering stealth technology, advanced avionics, and robust tactical capabilities suited for modern naval operations.
Texture Contents and Base Model Requirements
- Four unique US Marine Corps-inspired paints, each labeled differently to display distinct aircraft numbers.
- High-resolution markings that integrate seamlessly with the F-35C model geometry by Dino Cattaneo.
- All repaints formatted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, ensuring authentic visuals when operating from naval air stations or aircraft carriers.
Note: These repaints do not include the base F-35C model. Users must acquire the freeware Dino Cattaneo F-35C (F35V230.ZIP) from the Fly Away Simulation library first.
