Experience refined depictions of smaller UK airfields in a freeware scenery package that upgrades underpopulated default fields in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created by developer Alf Denham, this volume adds enhanced detail to Bodmin (EGLA), Goodwood/Chichester (EGHR), and Truro (EGHY). Each location benefits from carefully placed generic objects and accurately adjusted layouts, providing general aviation pilots with a more authentic atmosphere while operating in these picturesque corners of the UK.
Key Airfield Refinements
Bodmin (EGLA)
Bodmin Airfield lies amid the rolling hills of Cornwall, offering a focal point for flight training and recreational flights. Although the real-world site is relatively modest, the scenery enriches ground textures, building placements, and apron configurations to increase realism for pilots exploring southwest England.
Goodwood/Chichester (EGHR)
Known for its historic motor circuit and annual aviation events, Goodwood/Chichester in West Sussex sees frequent light aircraft operations. This rendition includes refined hangar outlines, a visually improved runway environment, and custom-placed generic structures. These upgrades help illuminate the character and heritage of this busy aerodrome.
Truro (EGHY)
Truro Airfield, another Cornish destination, is situated near the scenic coastline. The enhancements add more depth to its taxiways, ramps, and main facilities, giving virtual pilots a better sense of local terrain and airfield charm. By centering on accurate scaling and visual cues, the add-on fosters an immersive sense of flight in the southwestern region of the UK.
Scenery Design Process
The developer relied on several resources, including Google Earth and Pooleys UK Flight Guide, to refine airfield boundaries and buildings. The FSX SDK Object Placement Tool and Airport Design Editor v1.26 contributed to adjusting elevation, position, and structural layout. These standard scenery elements ensure compatibility within Microsoft Flight Simulator X without requiring additional libraries.
Compatibility and Integration
The package utilizes default simulator objects, so it remains fully freeware and easy to install. It was tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X with SP2 or Acceleration, which helps address any performance or stability considerations. Users who operate earlier service packs or those without SP2 might encounter occasional discrepancies with scenery object rendering.
Installation and Removal
All installation instructions are included in the accompanying documentation inside the package folders. These files describe placement within the simulator’s Addon Scenery library and any steps to avoid conflicts with existing custom airports. If removal becomes necessary, simply remove the installed files, and the airfields revert to their default states.
Authorship and Credits
This scenery modification originates from Alf Denham, who has contributed multiple enhancements to smaller UK destinations. By focusing on airfields that often receive minimal simulator attention, he aims to provide a modest but meaningful upgrade for virtual pilots seeking variety and authenticity in local general aviation environments.
