FSX North American P-51D-5-NA 20th FG

This file contains three texture sets for the Warbirdsim P-51D-5-NA Mustang, depicting aircraft from the 20th FG in late October/November 1944. They are 44-13687 'Dizzy Rebel' flown by Lt. Robert H. King of the 77th FS, 44-13753 'Kitty and Bunny', flown by Capt. Charles Hamme of the 79th FS, and 44-13***, 'Cathy Beloved, flown by Lt Thomas J. Doody of the 55th FS. This latter has been assigned the serial 44-13794 for the purposes of the identification panel and the cockpit placards, on the basis that an aircraft with that serial carried the squadron code KI-C flown by Lt Walter H. Skroback and named 'Piccolo Pete'. By Dave Quincey.

'Diizy Rebel' survived the war but was lost in a crash landing in August 1945; 'Piccolo Pete' was probably scrapped after a forced landing at the 357th FG base of Leiston in January 1945. The fate of 'Kitty and Bunny' is unknown though she did have two other 'owners'.

Unzip the 20th_FG file to a temporary location. Copy and paste the three textures into your SimObjectsAirplanesP-51D-5-NA_Little_Friends_Fillet folder. (Note that these folders also contain a P-51D_2_T_Bump file lacking the carburetor heater vents on each side of the nose, a feature of all three of these aircraft).

Open the aircraft.cfg folder and paste the following after the last [fltsim.xx] entry:-

Replace [fltsim.xx] with the next available numbers and save.

These texture sets were created using the excellent paint kit supplied by Warbirdsim's John Terrell who also kindly supplied the P-51D_2_T-Bump file. The artwork for 'Cathy Beloved' comes from Mark Styling's excellent Aircraft Illustration website and is reproduced here with kind permission. I must also give credit to Paul Randall's invaluable resource on the 8th AF fighter groups. These repaints are freeware; they can be used and modified as you wish for your own use. They must not be used or sold for commercial gain.
