A fully-featured freeware Vought Corsair F4U-1a add-on for all versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D v3, v4, and the latest v5 developed by A.F.Scrub.

The model is native and is not a port-over from a previous FS2004 model so you can be sure of compatibility and longevity with the latest sims based on FSX.

The aircraft includes many advanced animations and features such as guns that can be fired, an opening canopy, fully animated folding wings along with lights, and a working tailhook for aircraft carrier landings.

Also included is a fully working 3D VC (virtual cockpit).

Liveries Included

  • 29 - Corsair was flown by lt Ira Kepford CV 17 USS bunker Hill April 44, 16 kills.
  • Brit - Corsair Mk II nr 718 squadron FAA, Ballyhalbert 1944.
  • White - Corsair was flown by Lt Stout, VMF-422 Engibi Island on April 44.
  • NZ - Goodyear FG-1D Bu #88391 which is operated in New Zealand by nr 20 squadron in October 45. This aircraft was originally delivered to the RNZAF as NZ5648.

Installation

  • Unzip " Corsair_F4U1A" into a temporary file and move the "Corsair_F4U1A" folder into the main Aircraft directory.
  • Read instructions carefully when installing the gauges, say YES...when asked if the gauges sources should be trusted. If you say no....most of the gauges are not going to work!
  • Leave all gauges in the Corsair F4U-1 panel folder
  • Copy the effects into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\effects folder and the 20can.wav into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\sound folder. The fx_tracer.bmp must go into the Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator ...\effects\texture folder.
  • Guns are fired by the Smoke key, opening canopy, cowl flaps, folding wings, lights, and tailhook by standard keys.
  • Differential brakes by Keys of your choice.

IMPORTANT

  • This model is native FSX/P3D and doesn't work in FS9.
  • In P3D replace the propdisk.bmp in texture.common by propdisk.dds from effects .

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D add-on

  1. Extract the downloaded archive

    Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.

  2. Place files per the readme

    Most FSX add-ons go into one of: SimObjects\Airplanes\, Addon Scenery\, Effects\, or Gauges\.

  3. Always read the included readme

    Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

    I downloaded without firewall and antivirus and installed exactly as told in the readme. Nicely modeled from outside, and an acceptable flight behavior.

    But there are nearly zero animations in the VC and 2D cockpit, as in the extra views.

    • The throttle, gear, and mixture levers and trim wheels cannot be moved with mouse commands; same for the flaps.
    • Nearly all knobs and switches are without function.

    Disappointing. Not the level usually offered by Fly Away.
