This repaint offers a faithful depiction of the heavy-lift Douglas C-124 Globemaster II, known for its robust cargo capabilities and iconic service in the U.S. Air Force around the early 1950s. Created by Bob Azzaro and refined with permission by Rory Thomson for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, this texture set pays tribute to the Strategic Air Command’s (SAC) utilization of the C-124 for transporting equipment across key bomber airbases. This package requires the freeware JBK Douglas C124 model, which can be found in the Fly Away Simulation library. Below, you will find further details and installation instructions that ensure proper integration into your simulator environment.
Enhanced Military Cargo Aesthetics
The distinctive paint scheme captures the essence of the era in which the C-124 operated under the USAF’s SAC. Its expansive airframe and clamshell cargo doors are represented with authentic markings, providing increased immersion for historical flight operations. This release highlights the aircraft’s robust airlift performance, designed to move large weapons and support equipment over extended distances. The dual-lobed fuselage is neatly rendered, showcasing the extensive cargo hold capacity for missions across numerous global airfields within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

Historical Notes on the C-124 Globemaster II
Developed as a successor to earlier cargo airframes, the Douglas C-124 carried oversized freight and routinely supported large-scale operations. Affectionately referred to as “Old Shakey” due to its vibrations in flight, the aircraft employed a cavernous hold and nose-mounted loading ramp to streamline the transfer of logistical gear. In the SAC role, it became indispensable when servicing overseas deployments and domestic bases.
