This comprehensive repaint package offers the distinctive VMFA(AW)-533 “Hawks” markings for the VRS F/A-18E Super Hornet in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It provides a richly detailed scheme reflecting the squadron’s operational identity and features the “00” jet as it appeared during the 2011 WESTPAC Deployment. Created by the talented developer Nathan Havercroft, this freeware texture set pays tribute to Fox-3 and the entire Hawks unit while retaining accurate squadron insignia and color configurations. The base payware VRS F/A-18E (version 1.4 or newer) is essential to utilize these textures, and it can be obtained from a reputable store such as SimShack.
Key Aviation Elements of the VMFA(AW)-533 “Hawks”
Stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort (MCAS Beaufort) in South Carolina, the “Hawks” operate under the oversight of Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31) and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. Historically, they transitioned to the F/A-18D model in September 1992, deploying in engagements like Operation Allied Force (1999), Operation Southern Watch, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Although the squadron’s real-world aircraft is the dual-seat “D” variant, this repaint adapts its legacy aesthetics to the single-seat “E” platform for the simulator, reflecting the squadron’s storied history in a contemporary framework.
Authentic WESTPAC Deployment Details
Incorporated within these textures are numerous subtle components highlighting the 2011 WESTPAC Deployment scheme. The fuselage features squadron emblems and wing insignia, while the vertical stabilizers commemorate the Hawks’ tradition with bold tail markings. All of these details merge to form a faithful representation of the squadron’s operational liveries, especially for anyone seeking a more realistic USMC experience in the virtual skies.

System Requirements and User Permissions
These textures are fully compatible with the payware VRS F/A-18E Super Hornet, version 1.4 and later. Older iterations of the Super Hornet package may not support certain texture parameters in this repaint. Please note that these textures are released under freeware terms; they should not be uploaded elsewhere without the permission of Nathan Havercroft. If you intend to modify the files or use them as a basis for another repaint, kindly reach out beforehand to obtain consent.
Installing the VMFA(AW)-533 Textures
- Extract the ZIP archive to a location of your choice.
- Open the VRS Aircraft Manager (ACM) for your payware F/A-18E.
- Import the extracted files through the ACM interface to integrate them into your existing Super Hornet installation.
Once installed, you will find the newly added livery in your simulator’s aircraft selection menu, allowing you to experience the pride and heritage of the “Hawks” during virtual sorties in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Special thanks go to fbk289 for providing the repaint kit that helped facilitate this project.
