Editorial

The Huey is one of those aircraft that people know all about and appreciate flying around in, given the massive element of history that it was involved in. As the “go-to” chopper during the Vietnam War this is an aircraft which has continued to gather support and change the direction of the world of helicopters ever since. It might be deeply outdated today but my approach to life is to never forget what has led us to get this far. So, in homage, I picked up my old FS2002 copy and installed this wonderful simulator mod to go with.

I quickly found that even using software which is nearly 15 years old, this still looks pretty decent. You can see what the crew are trying to do at all times with the mod. The attention to detail is more or less spot on, giving you a really interesting look and feel that can become much easier than ever to get to grips with

The interior is easy to learn and the actual management of the chopper is as easy as it should be. This was a very user-friendly piece of kit and with this recreation by Lynn Rogers and Mark Royle, you can feel that. The work of the repaint is spot on, too, with the colouring of the aircraft model absolutely spot on.

This has significantly changed the way that the aircraft looks in general, giving you something which looks fresh and fair in accordance to the simulation that you are using. It does a great job of capturing the kind of look you might expect whilst making sure it is never any challenge to fly.

The work on the body and the scale of the helicopter does wonders for making the model even more enjoyable to be flying around with. The whole thing can be easily managed from the cockpit, with plenty of features helping you to capture the right look and feel regarding this historical aircraft.

If you are like me and have a bit of a love for the old Huey then this is well worth downloading. Even on comparatively ancient pieces of kit like FS2002 it can still look pretty good and, most importantly, it stays true to the reality of the aircraft. It looks excellent and carries itself with genuine class and charisma along the way – the perfect choice for true aviation fans.
