Is the Airbus A380 free in Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Yes—PC users can download the FlyByWire A380X free for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It is a community-built add-on, not an A380 included with the simulator. Xbox users cannot install it, and MSFS 2024 users should choose only a build explicitly marked compatible with that simulator.
Which free Airbus A380 works in Microsoft Flight Simulator?
The FlyByWire A380X is the free A380 most MSFS users mean. It is a native, flyable aircraft with its own cockpit, systems and flight model rather than a repaint of another aeroplane.
An A380 livery is not the aircraft itself; it requires the exact base model named by its creator. Likewise, an AI-only model may appear in airport traffic but cannot be flown from the cockpit. Check that any download says it is flyable, native to your MSFS version and intended for your platform.
The A380X costs nothing, but Microsoft Flight Simulator and a suitable Windows PC are still required. Other A380 products may be separate paid aircraft, so the existence of this freeware model does not make every A380 listing free.
Does the free A380 work in MSFS 2024 and on Xbox?
MSFS 2020 on PC is the established platform for the free A380X; MSFS 2024 compatibility depends on the particular build, while Xbox cannot install this externally distributed aircraft.
| Platform | Free A380 availability | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| MSFS 2020 on Windows PC | Yes | Install the native A380X through the developer’s installer. |
| MSFS 2024 on Windows PC | Build-dependent | Use only a release explicitly labelled for MSFS 2024; do not assume every MSFS 2020 package transfers correctly. |
| Xbox or Xbox Cloud Gaming | Not the PC freeware A380X | External Community packages cannot be side-loaded. Only aircraft distributed through the in-simulator Marketplace can be installed. |
| FSX or Prepar3D package | Not usable in MSFS | These simulators use different aircraft formats and systems. |
How do I install the free A380 on PC?
The safest method is to use the aircraft developer’s official installer and select the matching Microsoft Flight Simulator version.
- Confirm the simulator: identify whether you are running MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 before choosing a release.
- Remove obsolete copies: delete an older duplicate A380X installation before changing release channels or installing a replacement build.
- Run the official installer: select the appropriate simulator profile and allow it to place the package in the correct Community folder.
- Restart the simulator: open the aircraft selector and search for the A380. A simulator restart is required after adding or replacing aircraft files.
If it does not appear, the usual causes are the wrong Community folder, an unsupported simulator build, a duplicated package or an extra nested folder. Our native MSFS aircraft installation instructions explain how to identify the active folder and check the package structure.
Why won’t a free FSX A380 work in MSFS?
An Airbus A380 made for FSX or Prepar3D cannot be copied into Microsoft Flight Simulator and used as a native aircraft.
For example, our free A380 package for FSX and Prepar3D is a genuine freeware download, but its compatibility label excludes MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. Copying its legacy aircraft folder into the MSFS Community folder does not convert its model, cockpit, gauges or flight dynamics.
A native MSFS package normally has files such as manifest.json and layout.json near the top of its package folder. Their absence is a warning that the download may belong to an older simulator, although those files alone do not guarantee compatibility. We explain the underlying format differences in our guide to using FSX aircraft and add-ons with modern MSFS.
For other aircraft and community content, use an MSFS-specific freeware library and verify the listed simulator version before downloading.
