Which MSFS AI ATC works on PC, Xbox and PlayStation?
Full third-party AI voice ATC is primarily a Windows PC feature. BeyondATC, SayIntentions.AI, Pilot2ATC and FSHud run as companion applications or use PC-side connectors rather than operating entirely inside the simulator.
MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 on PC
PC pilots have the widest choice because external applications can receive simulator position, aircraft and flight-plan data. The stock MSFS controller is often described as AI ATC, but it is chiefly a menu-driven automated system rather than conversational microphone input.
Most ATC packages are not ordinary scenery mods. Do not assume that placing the whole application in the Community folder will install it; use the supplied application and connector instructions.
How do you talk to ATC in MSFS 2024 on PS5?
On PS5 and PS5 Pro, you communicate through the built-in MSFS 2024 ATC panel and its listed responses, not by speaking into the headset microphone. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is available on PlayStation, but MSFS 2020 was never released there.
- Open the in-simulator ATC panel using the interface or an assigned controller command.
- Tune or select the correct frequency for the relevant airport, ground, tower, departure or centre facility.
- Select one of the available transmissions and wait for the controller's reply before choosing the next response.
- Check radio assistance settings if the simulator answers automatically; an enabled AI radio-assistance option can take control of transmissions.

X-Plane running on macOS or Linux does not mean every connected ATC application runs natively on those systems. The simulator and the external controller may have different platform requirements.
How do you set up AI voice ATC correctly?
A reliable setup needs one flight plan, one selected microphone, one push-to-talk binding and one application controlling traffic. The recurring mistake we see is installing several realistic-sounding tools without deciding which one owns each task.
- Confirm exact compatibility. Check the simulator edition, operating system and any required connector before buying or installing the ATC application.
- Synchronise the flight plan. The simulator, ATC add-on and aircraft FMS should agree on the route, flight rules and destination. A runway or procedure may still change after ATC assigns it.
- Select the microphone explicitly. Choose the headset in the ATC application and allow microphone access in the operating system. Do not rely on the Windows default if webcams, VR headsets or virtual audio devices are installed.
- Assign a dedicated push-to-talk key. Avoid a button already used for brakes, camera controls or the simulator's own ATC menu. Press it before speaking, pause briefly and release it after the final word.
- Disable duplicate controller audio. Mute or turn off stock ATC handling when the replacement product instructs you to do so; otherwise two controllers may issue conflicting clearances.

Why does voice recognition misunderstand ATC calls?
Most failed transmissions are caused by the wrong input device, clipped push-to-talk audio or unexpected phrase structure rather than the pilot's accent. Diagnose the symptom before changing microphones or reinstalling the application.
- No input level: select the microphone inside the ATC program and check operating-system privacy permission.
- The first or last word disappears: hold push-to-talk slightly before speaking and keep it held until the transmission is complete.
- The callsign is rejected: use the registration or airline telephony designator shown by the add-on rather than inventing a shortened form.
- Words are recognised but the request fails: command-based systems may require the facility, callsign, position, altitude and request in an expected order.
- Push-to-talk works only when the application is focused: check global-hotkey settings, conflicting bindings and whether the simulator and ATC program are running with different permission levels.
- The reply describes the wrong route: re-import or reconcile the flight plan and check for differences between scenery, procedure and navigation data.
- Replies are delayed despite good recognition: test the internet connection and cloud-service status; this is not normally fixed by microphone calibration.
Concise radio structure gives every system less to misinterpret. A useful template is: facility, callsign, position or altitude, then request. For example, “Ground, G-ABCD, north apron, VFR to the west, request taxi” is clearer than a long explanation of the planned flight.
Is AI voice ATC better than VATSIM?
AI ATC is better for guaranteed coverage and private practice; VATSIM is better for authentic human judgement and unpredictable radio traffic. They solve different problems rather than replacing one another.
An AI controller is available for the whole flight, repeats exercises consistently and removes the social pressure of speaking to another person. That makes it practical for learning radio flow, although it can also teach product-specific habits that do not match real-world procedures.
A human controller can combine instructions, recognise local context and adapt to congestion in ways automated systems may miss. The trade-off is that coverage is not guaranteed, only staffed positions are controlled, and pilots are expected to prepare their route, callsign and basic phraseology before transmitting.
Can you use voice ATC without a subscription?
Yes, although the choices are narrower. Pilot2ATC uses a traditional licensed application and speech-recognition workflow rather than unrestricted conversational AI, while built-in simulator ATC has no separate service charge. A human-controller network can also avoid an AI subscription but requires an account, compatible PC client and suitable controller coverage.
Do not confuse a one-time application licence with entirely offline operation. Weather, maps, voice generation, updates or activation may still use online services, depending on the product and configuration.
