This McDonnell Douglas MD-11 in the prestigious Saudi Arabian Royal Flight theme offers a distinctive triple-engine configuration with a spacious fuselage and a fully modeled virtual exterior, all crafted by the talented iFDG (international Flightsim Design Group). This freeware package includes the base model, default panel and sounds, along with iFDG’s specialized effects—delivering an all-in-one experience for enthusiasts seeking a reliable, wide-cabin airliner simulation.
Examining the Tri-Engined Marvel
This variant of the MD-11—a development of the earlier DC-10 family—features several notable additions that reduce drag and enhance performance. Designers refined the wing trailing edges, added aerodynamic winglets, and shaped a smaller horizontal stabilizer capable of carrying supplemental fuel. These structural upgrades also help extend the aircraft’s range while retaining stable handling qualities.

Power and Performance Highlights
This widebody airliner can be fitted with General Electric CF6-80C2 or Pratt & Whitney 4460/4462 engines, which provide the necessary thrust range for both short- and long-haul operations. The standard configuration is cleared for a maximum takeoff weight of about 602,500 pounds (273,290 kg), enabling a nonstop distance of roughly 7,630 statute miles (12,270 km). The extended-range (ER) edition incorporates additional fuel capacity and boosts that maximum takeoff weight to about 630,500 pounds (285,990 kg), pushing flight endurance to almost 8,225 statute miles (13,230 km). These parameters allow operators to optimize performance across a variety of global routes.
Passenger and Cargo Flexibility
Seating layouts span from about 285 travelers in a three-class setup to over 400 in a single-class arrangement. Under the main deck, cargo holds can accommodate multiple unit load devices (ULDs)—either containers or pallets—which augments revenue potential. In everyday operation, airlines value this trijet for its mixture of passenger comfort and additional freight capacity.
Avionics and Crew Interface
The cockpit employs six cathode ray tube (CRT) screens that unify vital flight data, accompanied by an advanced flight management system for precision and efficiency in navigation. Furthermore, this flight deck integrates digital instrumentation, wind-shear detection, and dual automatic flight control components. By automating most vital checklists for normal or emergency procedures, the systems reduce crew workload to two pilots while maintaining exceptional situational awareness.
Saudi Arabian Royal Flight Distinction
Adorned in the exclusive livery of the Saudi Arabian Royal Flight, this aircraft reflects the region's affinity for modern aviation technology. The national colors and markings are rendered meticulously for a faithful representation on the MD-11’s external surfaces. Historically, Saudi Arabia has consistently invested in high-performance aircraft, making this trijet a natural fit for longer intercontinental missions and VIP transport duties.
Modeling and Contributors
This simulation package originates from iFDG, with the original model design overseen by Albaro Villegas, master textures by Ben Jones, and detailed testing by the MD-11 Beta Team. The livery adaptation is by Dirk Kiefer, ensuring authenticity in every paint stroke. Documentation came courtesy of both Albaro Villegas and Basten Heidema.
Technical Highlights
- Comprehensive animations of ailerons, rudder, flaperons, and flaps
- Reflective, high-resolution liveries for an immersive visual experience
- Accurate flight dynamics modeling (FDE) for realistic handling
- Functional impact and lighting effects integrated through the “I” key
Installation Steps
To install, simply unzip all contents directly into your Flight Simulator aircraft directory. Ensure any files within the effects
folder are relocated to the simulator’s main EFFECTS
folder so you can activate them as needed. Once everything is placed correctly, the aircraft will appear in your menu, ready for realistic long-distance or medium-range flight operations.
