This repaint package depicts Canadian Pacific Air Lines’ Convair CV-240 (registration CF-CUV) as it appeared in the early 1950s. It recreates the look of an aircraft that initially served Continental Airlines before joining Canadian Pacific in 1953. The real-world airframe eventually transferred to Japan’s TOA Airways, where it completed its service life. This detail-rich texture set and model file come from the efforts of Greg Pepper and Tom Gibson, with upgrades by Georg Hauzenberger (visual model) and Hans Hermann (livery textures) at Virtual Birds Factory. Installation requires the freeware CV240VBFCA18_BASEPACK_010.ZIP, which must be obtained separately.
Design Specifics and Operational Context
The Convair CV-240 was renowned for its pressurized cabin and short to medium-haul capabilities in the post-war era. Canadian Pacific Air Lines, based in Vancouver, utilized these aircraft on various routes, often to remote Canadian destinations requiring reliable performance. Featuring twin radial engines, the CV-240 could handle shorter runways, which proved advantageous in diverse settings. The authentic paint scheme in this package illustrates the airline’s distinctive fuselage stripes and tail markings used during the early 1950s.

Livery Package Dependencies
This add-on supplies texture files and a matching model file, but it relies on the base CV-240 package developed by the same creators. To ensure full compatibility, the original folders named cv240VBFca18, cv240VBFcb16, or cv240VBFmilitary must exist on your system. If you have not already installed the core aircraft, be sure to obtain the necessary base pack from the Fly Away Simulation library or as indicated in the User Manual. Without the correct core components, this repaint will not function correctly.
Installation Procedures
- Extract the content of this repaint’s ZIP archive to a temporary directory of your choice.
- Locate the file named similarly to cv240VBFca18_aal_N94200_01_setup.exe (this filename will differ depending on the specific livery). Double-click it to begin the automated setup process. The repaint and associated model will copy to the correct “cv240VBFca18,” “cv240VBFcb16,” or “cv240VBFmilitary” folder structure, depending on how it’s configured.
- When the installation completes, navigate to your Aircraft directory under “Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9,” then open whichever folder (for example, “cv240VBFca18”) now contains this newly added livery. Watch for a text file named (livery name)_add_to_aircraft_cfg.txt, where (livery name) denotes the short title for this paint scheme.
- Open that text file in a plain text editor (such as Notepad). Copy the bracketed [fltsim.xx] section. Next, open the aircraft.cfg file in the same folder, scroll to the end of the existing [fltsim.yy] entries, and paste the newly copied [fltsim.xx] block. Change “xx” to the correct numeric sequence, then save your edits and close the file.
Activating the Texture in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
Once these steps are complete, this authentic Canadian Pacific repaint should be visible within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004’s aircraft selection menu. If it does not appear, verify that the relevant folder is still labeled “cv240VBFca18,” “cv240VBFcb16,” or “cv240VBFmilitary,” confirm you have installed the correct base package, and ensure you selected the correct simulator root directory containing FS9.EXE. Avoid altering folder names or dismissing any required files, as doing so may prevent the livery from functioning properly.
This combination of historical authenticity and technical accuracy lets flight sim enthusiasts relive Canadian Pacific Air Lines’ mid-century service with the Convair CV-240. Once again, acknowledgment goes to Greg Pepper, Tom Gibson, Georg Hauzenberger, and Hans Hermann of Virtual Birds Factory for their foundational work on the base model and textures.
