This redesigned release includes refined exterior and interior textures for an iconic Canadian airliner, showcasing a historically significant livery restored at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It incorporates the work of Matthew Anderson, who developed the repaint, and the original Lockheed Super G Constellation model from Manfred Jahn and his dedicated team. Though these textures are tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, you must acquire the freeware base model separately.
Dedicated Visual Updates for a Classic Airframe
The Lockheed L-1049G, often referred to as the “Super G” Constellation, represented a substantial advancement over earlier variants. With its elongated fuselage and upgraded radial engines, it boasted improvements in range and passenger comfort. In this version 3 repaint, Matthew Anderson has enhanced the surfaces, ensuring richer color depth and more detailed markings. These updates celebrate the aircraft as Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) CF-TGE, which underwent restoration by the Museum of Flight in Seattle. The museum plans to display it once suitable protective structures are in place, reflecting TCA’s essential role in Canada’s aviation heritage.

A Glimpse into Trans-Canada Air Lines
Trans-Canada Air Lines, which became Air Canada in 1968, was founded to connect Canada’s vast regions more efficiently. During the 1950s, TCA acquired new Super Constellations or upgraded existing fleets to the “G” standard. By 1961, with the dawn of the jet era, these starliners were phased out in favor of the DC-8. Today, CF-TGE stands as a progenitor of Canadian commercial aviation, preserved in homage to the golden age of propeller-driven air travel.
Installing the Updated Textures
- Identify the folder containing your existing Super G Constellation by Manfred Jahn and collaborators. For many setups, this can be found within the “SimObjects” directory in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, or in the “Aircraft” folder for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. The subfolder might be named “Lockheed_L1049.”
- Copy the folder labeled “texture.tge” from this download and place it inside the Lockheed_L1049 folder.
- Open the aircraft’s aircraft.cfg file and append the following block. Replace the “X” in [fltsim.X] with the next available index (e.g., [fltsim.4] if you already have up to [fltsim.3]):

description="c/n 4544. CF-TGE was delivered to Trans-Canada Air Lines in 1954 as a L-1049C. It was later upgraded to an L-1049E and further converted to an L-1049G. After retiring in 1961, it changed hands multiple times until 2005, when it was obtained by the Museum of Flight in Seattle. It was restored between 2007 and 2009, returning it to TCA’s original scheme. Presently, it awaits display in Seattle."
Optional Nosewheel Hubcaps
For those who prefer to use the nosewheel hubcaps, open the “texture.tge” folder and locate the file named “wings_t”. Remove or rename it, then rename “wings_t(alternate)” to “wings_t.” This minor change customizes the look of the forward gear assembly.
Base Model and Credits
This repaint set includes textures only. To experience it fully, download and install the Lockheed Super G Constellation freeware model (L1049G.ZIP) from Manfred Jahn and his capable team. Matthew Anderson has dedicated significant time to refine the paintwork. Fly Away Simulation is proud to host and share this unique piece of aviation history for enthusiasts everywhere.

Thank you so much for this repaint! It's absolutely magical being able to fly this airplane in particular, given I go to school next door!
