This repaint showcases a Gloster Meteor F4 featuring the markings of RA381, a variant once operated by No 600 (City of London) Squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force at RAF Biggin Hill, circa March 1950. Special credit goes to Rob Richardson for the original freeware model for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration and to Peter Watkins for crafting this unique repaint. This package does not include the base model, so ensure you obtain it from the Fly Away Simulation library before adding this texture.
Technical Focus on the Meteor Airframe
The Gloster Meteor lineage represents a milestone in British jet development, powered by twin turbofan engines (technically known as turbojet engines in early models) and used extensively by the Royal Air Force in the post-war era. This F4 variant reflects advancements in performance over earlier Meteor marks, including improved powerplants and redesigned wings that contributed to higher operational ceilings and enhanced maneuverability. Pilots valued this jet for its dependable handling characteristics and robust airframe, making it pivotal for air defense during the early Cold War period.

Royal Auxiliary Air Force Connection
No 600 Squadron, often referred to as the City of London squadron, played an important role in the defense of British airspace. Stationed at RAF Biggin Hill, these Gloster Meteors participated in routine patrols and readiness exercises. RA381’s markings capture that period, reflecting the colorful heritage of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force in 1950.
