A fully complete and extensive freeware scenery mod featuring photogrammetric scenery, 3D objects, airport replacements, and even scenery libraries covering the entire area of Dijon, France for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 release.
Developed by AndrianLScenery, this mod aims to bring Dijon, France up to a brand-new detail not seen before in Microsoft Flight Simulator. This pack completely replaces the default Microsoft offering and is higher detail, uses higher detailed 3D building and object data as well as higher resolution ground and building textures from a different source.
The version available here is currently v3.0 and the developer has made some major changes with this version. In version 2.0 LOD's definitions were updated along with new terraforming data and the inclusion of LFSD (Dijon-Longvic Air Base) airport. Performance and frame rate improvements were also made. It's worth noting Microsoft released several Sim Updates that improved the performance and FPS of photogrammetric scenery mods like this even without the developers updating the packages themselves.
Version 3.0 includes a complete rework of the original package. Some of the highlights are;
- New HD detailed textures for the entire area at 19cm/tile.
- The color of each tile has been manually adjusted and tweaked to blend better with the scenery outside the coverage area - and also to make it look more suited in MSFS.
- Blending and border renders have been improved - especially around the airport areas.
- Photorealistic ground textures were removed from the airports after feedback from users - the default MSFS photo ground textures for the airports did seem better as they were higher definition (and more accurate) by using the default.
- Terraforming data was revised and upgraded for better accuracy.
- CHU Hospital Heliport in Dijon was added to the scenery mod.
- Overhaul of the entire pack in order to improve performance was applied which also decreased mod size by ~20%.
Some notes are provided by the developer regarding this mod;
- Photogrammetric data are not available around Dijon prison.
- Helipads are not really helipads or parking but very shorts runways (invisible in game). This is why your engine is already start and the start position could be bugged. Help wished.
- Trees look like crumpled paper because of photogrammetry technology. I can't remove them.
- At night, somes lights "flotting" over the scene.
They have also announced the following disclaimer;
Despite all the efforts to optimized performances, this addon require a minimal configuration (mine is Intel Core i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz; GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 32 Go RAM = 40/45 FPS ). For lower configuration, this addon can cause a critical deacrease of FPS or game crash.
Dijon is a great place to start some European flights if you are visiting the continent in Microsoft Flight Simulator. It's close to the South of France and you can visit Nice or even fly across to Monaco easily from this location. The scenery mod also enables some beautiful low-and-slow VFR flights in something very light. Dijon is famous for its mustard of course - so why not visit this city from above and explore the surrounding regions and learn about them as you fly.
The developer has made the entire scenery coverage area accurate and true-to-life with much attention spent on sourcing the data and also post-processing the imagery and 3D modeling to really bring it to life. Dijon in France will look substantially better after installing this mod and we'd love to hear your comments below.

Editorial
If you've found the virtual representation of Dijon, France in MSFS 2020 lacking in detail, then the AndrianLScenery mod is your solution. Not only does this mod transform Dijon with stunning photogrammetry (the use of photography to map measurements), but it introduces an array of 3D objects and intricate airport alterations, creating a level of realism unparalleled in the simulator's default offering.
"AndrianLScenery brings Dijon to life, capturing its intricate charm and historic splendour in a way that the default MSFS can't match."
Version 3.0 of the mod, available at Fly Away Simulation, embodies a comprehensive revamp of the package. High definition textures at 19cm/tile blanket the entire area, with manual colour adjustments ensuring a seamless blend with surrounding landscapes. Borders and blending have been refined, particularly around airports, contributing to an immersive aesthetic that dovetails with the mod's performance enhancements. In addition, key landmarks like CHU Hospital's heliport now feature, injecting an extra layer of authenticity.
However, with its photorealism and detailed 3D rendering, this mod necessitates robust system specifications. Those running less powerful rigs might encounter decreased frame rates or game crashes, as cautioned by the developer.
For the aeronautical explorers, Dijon makes a great starting point for continental European tours. Short hops to Nice, Monaco, or slow, low-altitude flights in a light aircraft provide a variety of virtual aviation experiences. Plus, as the mod's creator promises, Dijon, the world-renowned mustard city, never looked better from above.
"Explore Dijon and its surroundings from the skies, and you'll get a sense of the dedication poured into this mod."
The comprehensive package available at Fly Away Simulation includes all essential files, plus several optional mods recommended by the developer. For those utilising GPS, Dijon's central coordinates are 47.3220° N, 5.0415° E.
The mod includes several airports both major and minor, from Dijon-Bourgogne Airport (LFSD) to Beaune-Challanges Airport (LFGF), and several others. These make for great starting or ending points for your simulated flights.
Verdict
AndrianLScenery's Dijon mod is a welcome enrichment to MSFS 2020, providing an upgraded, immersive experience that was hitherto missing. Not only does it offer a more authentic depiction of Dijon, but its attention to detail and dedication to quality deliver an impressive visual spectacle. While the mod does require a robust system for optimal performance, the payoff for the passionate virtual aviator is well worth it.
Remember to let us know your thoughts in the comments below after you've had a chance to experience the mod's immersive rendition of Dijon. Happy flying!
