This freeware repaint showcases the Argentinian Army’s T-41 Mescalero, meticulously crafted on the default Cessna 172 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2 (Acceleration). Created by the developer and enhanced by the paint kit from Tyler Miller (also known as Millertime), this package brings a military-inspired livery dedicated to those who appreciate realism and authenticity. It reflects the T-41’s notable presence in various air forces across the globe and highlights its role in basic flight training and liaison missions.
Technical Details of the T-41 Mescalero Variant
The T-41 Mescalero is essentially a modified Cessna 172, adapted for military training and light utility tasks. In Argentinian Army service, it retains the classic four-seat cabin layout but includes distinct markings and an operational paint scheme. Designed originally for the U.S. Air Force, this airframe emphasizes reliability and straightforward handling. Its tricycle landing gear configuration allows concise ground operations, simplifying takeoffs and landings in diverse conditions.
Highlights of This Repaint
- Argentinian Army Markings: Features historically influenced titles and insignia on the fuselage for a realistic appearance.
- Military Color Palette: A camouflage-style finish evocative of trainer aircraft used by real-world armed forces.
- High-Resolution Textures: Utilizes the paint kit by Tyler Miller for crisp surface details and enhanced fidelity.
Installation Procedure
- Important Tail-Number Advice: Before proceeding, uncheck “Show Tail Number” via the Details button in the aircraft selection menu to remove any default registration code.
- Unzip the downloaded package to your preferred folder or desktop location.
- Copy the folder named "texture.arg" into the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172
- Open the aircraft.cfg file found in the same aircraft directory. At the end of the existing [fltsim.x] entries, paste the block below. Replace
xx
with the next sequential number in your configuration:
[fltsim.xx] title=Cessna Skyhawk Arg sim=Cessna172SP model= panel= sound= texture=arg kb_checklists=Cessna172SP_check kb_reference=Cessna172SP_ref atc_id=N760PL ui_manufacturer="Cessna" ui_type="C172SP Skyhawk" ui_variation=Argentinian Army ui_typerole="Single Engine Prop" ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation" description="A stable and dependable airframe, the Cessna 172 is a familiar trainer used by countless pilots. First introduced in 1955, over 35,000 airframes have been produced, making it one of the most recognized single-engine aircraft worldwide."
After saving the configuration, verify that the Argentinian Army livery is available in your aircraft selection menu. You can reference the “pleaseReadme” file included for further advice. Remember, you must have the freeware base model (the default FSX Cessna 172) installed before using this repaint. If needed, obtain the base package from the Fly Away Simulation mod library.
