This repaint package offers a detailed SA Express Bombardier CRJ200 rendition for Flight Simulator X, delivered by the developers at Project Open Sky and painted by creator Sebastian Szucs. It features nuanced exterior markings, representing the regional carrier’s livery, and includes installation instructions for convenient setup. Although this release is freeware, it requires the original Project Open Sky CRJ-200 base model, which can be downloaded from the Fly Away Simulation file library.
Overview
This add-on replicates a CRJ200 (Canadair Regional Jet 200) operated by South African Express, often shortened to SA Express. The airline has historically served regional routes around Southern Africa, and this repaint reflects its classic design elements. The CRJ200, crafted by Bombardier, is a twin-engine regional aircraft engineered for short to medium routes, known for efficient jet performance and compact passenger capacity.
Technical Details
- Model Requirement: Project Open Sky CRJ-200 (freeware base package)
- Texture Format: 32-bit .BMP files (no Mip-Maps)
- 2D/3D Model Compatibility: Ensures proper alignment and color across the fuselage
- Optimal for FSX installations (may function in other simulator variants, but tested in FSX)
- Paintkit Information: Modified Project Open Sky paintkit (originally FS2002-era), improved for FSX usage
Installation Procedure
- Extract the included texture.XXX folder into your existing Project Open Sky CRJ-200 directory.
- Open your aircraft configuration file (Aircraft.cfg) and copy the additional [fltsim.X] entry from the provided documentation into your own file.
- Adjust the [fltsim.X] index number to the next available sequence.
- Verify that both model= and sim= lines correspond correctly to your Project Open Sky CRJ-200 folder structure and the associated .air file.
- Load up Flight Simulator X and select the newly added CRJ200 entry to enjoy the SA Express livery.
Additional Notes
This repaint demonstrates a balanced level of detail, retaining minimal compression to preserve clarity. The older paintkit framework introduces certain limitations, yet every effort was made to refine textures and enhance color depth. Pilots are encouraged to explore shorter routes typically operated by SA Express, experiencing the jet’s performance in a regional environment.
Developed by the Project Open Sky team with livery work by Sebastian Szucs, this freeware package brings a rewarding South African Express simulator experience to users who install the base CRJ-200 model. Enjoy providing regional flight services over diverse terrain and appreciate the accuracy of this distinctive paint scheme in Flight Simulator X.
