Welcome to Gold River Water Aerodrome (CAU6) home to Air Nootka! This float base, at the head of Muchalat Inlet, is operated by the Village of Gold River as a public airport. This update was designed for Orbx's FTX NA Blue Pacific Northwest (PNW). Although Orbx added this float plane base in a patch, they got things a little wrong. They placed the Air Nootka dock where the mill site docks are and left the old mill site as a forest. This scenery enhancement will take care of both of those problems while also adding a number of custom (as well as FSX stock) objects. I also recommend (shameless plug coming) that you download my BC Coastal Beaver Repaints package from either FlightSim.com or AVSIM Library (the file is named bccoastalbeavers.zip at both sites). This will give you a number of repaints for the default FSX Beaver, including the one for Air Nootka.
The Village of Gold River took possession of the Government Wharf, from the Federal Government, in 2004. This municipal wharf and small dock, service fish boat operators in the area. The Gold River pulp mill went under in 1999, but WFP operates a tree farm license in the area and is active (in a small way) at the mill site.
Installation:
This scenery enhancement was designed to be used with Orbx's FTX NA Blue Pacific Northwest (PNW). To install the scenery.
1.After unzipping the goldriverfloat.zip file, copy the BCPNWFloatBases folder into your Addon Scenery folder \\Program Files\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery.
2.Copy the file CAU6_Gold_River_Float_ALT.BGL in the WorldScenery folder into your Scenery\World\Scenery folder \\Program Files\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\World\Scenery.
3. Add BCPNWFloatBases through your scenery FSX settings and make sure it is above all the Orbx PNW entries.
4.To use the included flight (see info in Flight section below), copy the files in the Flight folder into your Flight Simulator X Files folder \\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files.
5.This scenery was designed for a mesh resolution of 10 m. Set your FSX – Settings – Display – Scenery – Mesh resolution: 10.
Location:
Located at the head of Muchalat Inlet, if you are approaching from the west coast, the Nootka Lighthouse marks the entrance to Nootka Sound. Head east from the lighthouse and follow Muchalat Inlet all the way to Air Nootka. The Nootka Lighthouse (another shameless plug coming) is included in my BC PNW Lighthouses package which can be downloaded from either FlightSim.com or AVSIM Library (the file is named bcpnwlighthouses.zip at both sites).
Flight:
I have created a flight for the Air Nootka Beaver (imaginatively called Air Nootka at Nootka Lighthouse) that starts you next to the Nootka Lighthouse. After picking your way past the low lying shoreline in front of you (you did lower your water rudders didn't you) take off then head east down Muchalat Inlet to the Air Nootka base at Gold River Water Aerodrome (CAU6). Note that this flight is about 20 nautical miles and that the flight to CAU6 will show up in the GPS.
Note: This flight will work only if you have installed my Air Nootka repaint for the default Beaver.
