Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This add-on offers a painstakingly recreated Fairchild PT-26, originally developed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 by J. E. Narcizo and then meticulously updated for Microsoft Flight Simulator X by Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft. The PT-26 served as the initial training platform for many pilots during WWII, reflecting Fairchild’s dedication to building reliable, easily maintained airframes. Over 1,700 examples were constructed in both the United States and Canada, featuring the notable Ranger inline, air-cooled propulsion system. Because of its historical importance and distinctive flight characteristics, this freeware add-on appeals to aviation enthusiasts who appreciate vintage trainer aircraft rendered accurately in both 2D and 3D cockpit configurations.

Historical Origins, Engine Notes, and Unique Paintwork

The PT-26 was introduced as a fully enclosed-cockpit refinement of Fairchild’s earlier open-cockpit designs, primarily engaging as a primary trainer for the United States Army Air Forces. Powered by a Ranger engine that efficiently cooled through an inline layout, this aircraft allowed smooth handling under various conditions, making it particularly suited to fundamental flight instruction. The included livery pays homage to the original markings seen stateside, capturing camouflage and insignia elements with precision. Additionally, Mark Rooks integrated period-correct textures to showcase the PT-26 in an authentic WWII scheme.

Step-by-Step Loading Procedure

Preparation
Always create backups of any original data to avoid accidental overwrites.
Unpack Files
Extract the downloaded archive to a convenient location on your computer (e.g., desktop or temporary folder).
Move the Main Folder
Locate the “PT-26” folder and place it inside your main aircraft directory. By default, this resides at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes.
Check for Completeness
Confirm that the extracted “PT-26” folder includes all essential subfolders: CFG, Airfile, Model, Sound, Panel, and Textures.
Install Gauges
Move the required gauge files into the FSX gauges directory, typically found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\Gauges.

Once the new folder is placed correctly, you should see all six crucial subfolders. Ensure these are unzipped completely and located in “SimObjects\Airplanes.” After you have followed each of these steps, simply load Microsoft Flight Simulator X and enjoy the classic military trainer in your virtual hangar. The updated panels, authentic textures, and rich historical details deliver a comprehensive experience for those who appreciate the deep legacy of WWII training aircraft.
