Expert Overview

This custom-built scenery by developer Kui offers a highly detailed recreation of Pyongyang International Airport (ZKPY) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, transforming North Korea’s main airport with hand-modeled elements and newly overhauled runways. Drawing on real-world satellite imagery from ARC, it provides a faithful upgrade over the default simulator layout, complete with a meticulously crafted terminal, three jetway gates, two parking gates, and plenty of unassigned parking spots.

From my experience installing and testing this freeware add-on, the careful attention to detail shines through in the accurate depiction of runways 17-35 and 01-19, plus the elegant bridge spanning the nearby river. It’s a fun way to immerse yourself in the unique aviation environment of Pyongyang, and its modern touches ensure an authentic flying experience for anyone eager to explore this lesser-known destination.

This mod was installed, tested and reviewed by Adam McEnroe for Fly Away Simulation. Adam is an FS mod expert. Read his bio here.

Pyongyang International terminal shown in Microsoft Flight Simulator after this add-on was installed in the sim.Created by the developer that goes by the name of Kui, this scenery add-on depicts Pyongyang International Airport in as much detail as possible in the new simulator.  The default Microsoft offerings were much to be desired and if you are familiar with this airport, it will be a disappointment without using this add-on.

The entire generation of the airport has been created by hand and there has been satellite imagery for the airport and surrounding areas provided by ARC.

The airport itself, Pyongyang International Airport (ZKPY), is the main airport of North Korea (DPRK) and is located inside the famous Sunan district.  It serves as the nation's capital and the developer really wanted to bring an accurate representation of the airport to Microsoft Flight Simulator and has done so with this freeware scenery pack.

The airport (in the real world) mainly serves flights from/to China and Russia however many other destinations are flown out often along with incoming from other countries you may not realize.  The developer states,

It is very poorly represented in the base game and is outdated by at least a decade so I remade the entire airport to what it looks like in 2021 with custom buildings and new ground textures.

This scenery pack adds;

  • A complete rework of Pyongyang International Airport (ZKPY)
  • The terminal building was created from scratch
  • 3 jetway gates
  • 2 parking gates
  • Many unassigned parking spots on each side of the terminal building
  • Accurate representation of both runways, 17-35 (active) and 01-19 (closed) however still usable
  • Custom bridge hand placed over the river connecting with the closed runway at the airport
