This single-seat aerobatic platform pushes the boundaries of freestyle flight, relying on a high-powered 495 cubic-inch Trace-Orenda OE600 V-8 engine rated at around 600 horsepower. Specifically crafted for intricate and high-energy airshow maneuvers, this iteration caters to pilots looking to perform flick rolls, gyroscopic tumbles, and other complex competition-style routines with maximum confidence.
Refined Structural Engineering
The ARX-5X, commonly referred to as Concept 5, exhibits a robust frame tuned for unlimited-category operations. It draws inspiration from real-world practice, integrating a modern Hartzell scimitar propeller system (a swept-blade configuration that optimizes thrust efficiency). Although not strictly a replica of a real aircraft, it includes authentic elements such as the Chelton Flight Systems EAU, which provides engine and air-data readouts for precise in-cockpit awareness.

Enhanced Modeling and Flight Envelope
Version 2 of this freeware aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator X features a meticulously updated .air file, ensuring the wing loading and control responsiveness align with high-performance aerobatic standards. You can execute routine competition patterns—rolls, snaps, and loops—before transitioning into more extreme feats, like lomcovaks and torque rolls, all while maintaining predictable handling traits. Its optimal cruising speed hovers near 200 knots, and you can confidently push toward a never-exceed velocity of 240 knots under appropriate conditions.
The development team, led by Jason L. Terry and Mike Vivaldi, compiled the model using XtoMDL and adhered to the FSX SDK guidelines. As a result, the aircraft showcases environment and specular mapping that emphasize reflections across the airframe. It also implements dynamic virtual cockpit elements, presenting high-resolution textures and streamlined geometry for improved performance in-game.
Diverse Variants and Unique Effects
To cater to multiple flying preferences, you will find two configuration files, seven distinct models, and a total of twenty carefully designed paint schemes (including striking skins courtesy of Brady Duros and Joshua B. Nyhus)—all packaged under a single umbrella. A specially tailored smoke system adds vibrancy during agile routines, while the nighttime pyrotechnic effects elevate the spectacle when flying seasonal or airshow scenarios. Together, these features deliver a highly customized experience for aerobatic enthusiasts.
Installing the Package
Performing installation is straightforward. Simply run the provided installer executable and direct it to your main FSX folder. There is no need to manually select your SimObjects or Airplanes directory; the file paths update automatically. Once installation completes, you can launch your simulator and find the ARX-5X under your available aircraft, fully ready for high-octane aerial routines.
All core components, along with accompanying effects and panel configurations, stem from the innovative minds of Jason L. Terry and Mike Vivaldi, with visual enhancements provided by additional collaborators. This freeware aircraft mod is released as an all-in-one package, making it simple to expand your hangar and experience the thrill of unlimited-class aerobatics in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
