Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This freeware release provides a set of “Dirty Tiger” textures for a Grumman AA-5B Tiger, carefully crafted for Microsoft Flight Simulator X by creator Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks of RDG, based on an original aircraft model by Tim “Piglet” Conrad. It includes both 2D and 3D cockpit panels created by Mel Mutter, ensuring a complete and immersive general aviation experience. The content below details all noteworthy features, installation steps, developer acknowledgments, and important disclaimers.

Key Add-On Characteristics

  • Aircraft Model: Grumman AA-5B Tiger, a single-engine light aircraft recognized for its sleek lines and efficient performance.
  • Repaint: “Dirty Tiger” livery by Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks, highlighting weathered textures and unique details that accentuate the Tiger’s aerodynamic profile.
  • Panels Included: Complete 2D and virtual cockpit (VC) layout by Mel Mutter for enriched flight instrumentation and improved realism.
  • Base Compatibility: Tailored for use within Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Unique Observations from the Developer

This repaint is influenced by the designer’s firsthand experience with the Grumman AA-5 family and its sibling, the Grumman Yankee. According to the creator, time spent behind the controls of the Yankee felt less enjoyable compared to the bigger Tiger model. A photograph of the smaller Yankee is referenced in the package. Additionally, users are encouraged to “support a Mercy Flight” in their local communities, reflecting the developer’s appreciation for charitableaviation services.

Additional Developer Notes

In the interest of clarity, Mark Rooks states that Francis Silva no longer represents RDG and has no authority to share or distribute RDG aircraft files. There is also an apology regarding potentially misleading download statistics for select RDG aircraft, attributed to a single individual acting without permission. The developer has requested that this activity cease.

Installation Process

The following instructions detail how to properly install the “Dirty Tiger” repaint. Prior to any modifications, it is recommended to maintain a backup of your original files:

  1. Unzip all downloaded content to a convenient location on your system (for instance, the desktop).
  2. Locate the folder named “Grumman Dirty Tiger” and copy it into your main aircraft directory. By default, this folder typically resides at:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes
  3. Ensure that the new aircraft folder contains six key components after unzipping: CFG, Airfile, Model, Sound, Panel, and Textures. Place all of these in the same Grumman Dirty Tiger folder.
  4. Unzip the included Gauges folder and place its contents into your main Gauges directory, located under:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\Gauges

Once these steps are completed, the add-on should be ready to load within your flight simulator environment.
