This repaint package applies a weathered, outdoorsy finish to the default Maule Orion in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It showcases a rustic exterior and a black powder-coated panel, adding an aged but functional look to both the cockpit and cabin. This texture set was crafted by Daniel Wanvig to capture a sense of long wear and frequent utilization in bush environments.
Muddy Exterior Detailing and Cockpit Enhancements
The Maule M7-260C is a popular single-engine taildragger known for its short takeoff and landing ability. In this custom livery, the fuselage displays a tougher, muddied look that simulates operations on rough, undeveloped terrain. Meanwhile, the cockpit’s powder-coated dashboard brings a darker, worn finish to the interior, complementing the theme of active usage in remote regions.
Classic Bush Plane Characteristics
Maule aircraft have earned admiration among bush pilots for their robustness and short-runway capabilities. This particular M7-260C variant, with its Lycoming engine and rugged design, can carry up to five people on adventurous flights. When you add worn textures, you get a sense of realism that echoes countless hours in the field, ideal for simmers looking to immerse themselves in challenging conditions.
Installation Process
This repaint requires the default Maule Orion model from Microsoft Flight Simulator X as its base, which is freeware and typically included with FSX. If you need the base model, check the Fly Away Simulation library. To install these textures, follow the steps below:
- Extract and place the texture.muddy folder into your Maule_M7_260C folder. The usual path is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Maule_M7_260C.
- Within that same Maule_M7_260C folder, locate the file named aircraft.cfg. Open it, then paste the following entry into the file:

description="Maules are rugged and simple. These traits, along with their short-takeoff-or-landing capability, make them popular among bush pilots. The Maule M-7-260C is a taildragger with spring-aluminum landing gear and a wide stance, suitable for taking off from and landing on rough, unprepared surfaces. Its 260-horsepower Lycoming engine provides power to transport up to five people at a relatively fast cruise speed. Ease of handling (with the usual caveats about landing taildraggers in a crosswind) and economical operation round out this plane’s sturdy virtues. The ski option adds to the 260C’s versatility."
- Observe other [fltsim.x] entries in the aircraft.cfg file. Find the highest number used in those entries and replace the “xx” with the next sequential number.
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X, locate the Maule under your aircraft selections, and enjoy your newly mud-stained textures.
Note: This repaint set does not include the base model. You must have the default aircraft or a freeware alternative installed prior to using these textures.
