Immerse yourself in a refreshed rendition of Sidney Municipal Airport (N23) with this freeware scenery package, crafted by Jim Cook. Located in upstate New York near the I-88 corridor, this upgraded environment transforms the airfield into a more vibrant and functional general aviation hub, complete with reworked structures, additional parking, and static objects that enrich the overall atmosphere of Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Tailored Enhancements for General Aviation

This add-on introduces newly defined GA parking positions, ensuring a more realistic flow for aircraft operations and ramp bustle. Each parking spot is thoughtfully placed to accommodate different maneuvering requirements, reflecting an authentic take on typical light aviation facilities. The developer also integrated static airplanes around various ramps, offering a subtle nod to day-to-day traffic and activity.

Refined Buildings and Objects

The original terminal area and hangars have been realigned to better match real-world operational data, while new buildings have been introduced to complete the airport’s overall layout. Jim Cook has meticulously replaced certain default structures and added extra elements, such as maintenance sheds and storage units, to more accurately mirror the airport’s profile. A wide range of ground vehicles, equipment, and additional details further enhance the local ambience.

Optional Landclass and Compatibility

While this scenery was developed and tested alongside Ultimate Terrain and FSGenesis landclass products, these extras are not mandatory. Every new object and texture utilizes stock Microsoft Flight Simulator X resources, eliminating any need for third-party library installations. The creator has verified data through AirNav references and satellite imagery for maximum accuracy.

Nearby Airport Recommendation

Those interested in exploring the broader region may also wish to install Jim Cook’s reworked Oneonta, NY airport, situated a short distance down I-88. Combining both airports effectively enhances circuit practice and short hops across the scenic upstate New York landscape.

Configuration and Setup

The package includes two BGL files: AFX_N23_JC.bgl and N23_JC.bgl. To commence using the redesigned airfield, simply copy these files into the “Addon Scenery/Scenery” directory within your simulator, then reload Microsoft Flight Simulator X. After installation, pilots can enjoy the revamped setting, complete with active service areas and additional figures placed around the field.

Development credits go to Jim Cook, who relied on Flight 1’s AFX tool and Instant Scenery to deliver a detailed recreation of this distinctive upstate airport.
