The Corben Baby Ace stands out as a historically significant homebuilt airplane, originally introduced in 1929. Its detailed plans, designed by Orland Corben for the Ace Aircraft Manufacturing Company, paved the way for do-it-yourself aviation enthusiasts. Today, its distinctive frame endures through fresh builds worldwide. This freeware add-on faithfully recreates the German-tail variant for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, featuring the contributions of talented developers and real-world advisory support.

Early Design Roots and Lifespan

The original Baby Ace was promoted as the first kitplane people could construct themselves, ushering in a whole new segment in private aviation. Even now, many builders replicate each detail of this classic design, staying true to the innovative foundation set by Corben. The variant presented here references a custom German-tail configuration, offering a unique twist on the timeless airframe.

Aircraft Model and Immersive Elements

This package showcases a carefully modeled exterior and well-defined cockpit essentials, amplified by Robert Kerr’s gauges from the “Pete” project. All core elements, from the wing bracing to the rudder configuration, bring the Corben Baby Ace's signature look to the virtual platform. Each texture pays homage to classic paint schemes, with both red and white liveries included. In addition, flight dynamics have been closely aligned with genuine references kindly provided by Brian Harrington, the real pilot of “Bits & Pieces.”

Performance Characteristics

Thanks to meticulous fine-tuning, the simulation captures the stable flight qualities this aircraft is known for. The real machine’s straightforward control inputs and straightforward stall behavior have been carefully mirrored. Assertive short-field capabilities reflect the compact design’s strengths, giving virtual pilots the same sense of confidence felt by its real-world counterparts.

Installation Procedure

1. Extract the contents of the compressed folder into any temporary location on your computer.

2. Move the newly unzipped folder into your Aircraft or SimObjects directory, depending on whether you are installing for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 or Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

3. Launch the simulator, locate the German-tail Corben Baby Ace in your aircraft menu, and commence your flight adventures.

Key Contributions

Development credits go to Craig Richardson, whose dedication brought this freeware package to fruition. He was supported by Robert Kerr, who authorized the use of gauges from his “Pete” design. Additional insights came from the volunteer beta testers: Damian Radice, Brian Farrington, Leyland Spurr, and Roger Law, who refined flight behavior and ensured smooth integration. Furthermore, Brian Harrington furnished invaluable performance observations, drawing on his hands-on flying experiences with the actual aircraft.

All elements wrapped into this download make it a complete freeware model, preserving the spirit of the historical Corben Baby Ace while adapting it for modern simulators. With its classic lines and accessible controls, it is certain to bring timeless enjoyment to your virtual hangar.
