Which flight simulator airports have working jetways?

Ian Stephens
In short

Find flight simulator airports with working animated jetways, plus compatible scenery examples for MSFS, FSX, P3D and FS2004 and key fixes.

Working animated jetways are available at many large default airports, but the dependable answer is scenery-package-specific. Documented add-on examples include Gainesville (KGNV) in Microsoft Flight Simulator, plus La Crosse (KLSE), Cincinnati (KCVG), Brownsville (KBRO), Evers/Jackson (KJAN) and Jacksonville (KJAX) in FSX, P3D or FS2004 scenery, subject to package compatibility.

Which airports are confirmed to have working jetways?

These airport scenery packages explicitly document working, animated or updated custom jetways. This is a verified selection rather than an exhaustive list; the same airport may have static jetways in a different scenery package.

AirportSimulatorJetway coverage
Gainesville Regional (KGNV)Microsoft Flight SimulatorThe KGNV scenery with updated custom jetways replaces the airport environment and gate equipment.
La Crosse Municipal (KLSE)FSX and P3DThis KLSE airport package with operational jetways provides a documented legacy-simulator option.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (KCVG)FSX and P3DThe detailed KCVG scenery and working terminal jetways covers multiple terminals and concourses.
Brownsville (KBRO)FSX and P3DThe add-on includes a modern terminal with working jetways.
Evers International (KJAN)FSX and P3DWorking jetways are listed among the airport scenery features.
Jacksonville International (KJAX)FSX and FS2004The scenery documents working jetways alongside detailed gate assignments.

Large default airports in MSFS, X-Plane, FSX and Prepar3D may also include animated jetways. Airport code alone is not proof, however: jetway coverage is determined by the installed scenery, simulator edition and individual parking stand.

What does “working jetway” actually mean?

A working jetway responds to a simulator command or ground-service request and moves towards a supported aircraft door. A detailed terminal model with static passenger bridges does not count, even if those bridges appear correctly positioned from the cockpit.

Some scenery uses the simulator's native jetway system; other packages use custom animation or an additional service system. Native equipment is usually simpler to operate, while custom jetways may look better or serve more accurately placed stands but can depend on extra components.

How do I connect an animated jetway?

Park on the marked gate centreline, stop at the correct position and apply the parking brake. In Microsoft Flight Simulator, request the jetway through the available ground-services controls; FSX and many Prepar3D installations commonly use the assigned jetway command, traditionally Ctrl+J. Our jetway operation and positioning guide covers the simulator-specific procedure.

The selected stand must actually have an animated bridge. Ramp positions, cargo stands and remote parking bays may deliberately have no jetway, even at an otherwise fully equipped international airport.

Why is the airport jetway not moving?

Most failures come from the stand, aircraft position or scenery installation rather than the airport itself.

  • Wrong parking stand: confirm that the assigned gate visibly has a movable bridge rather than a static model.
  • Aircraft parked too far away: align the nosewheel with the centreline and stop near the painted stop marker. A few metres can determine whether the simulator recognises the aircraft.
  • Unsupported aircraft door: unusual door locations, incomplete aircraft configuration data or very small aircraft can prevent connection. The bridge may also move but clip the fuselage.
  • Conflicting airport scenery: two versions of the same airport can produce duplicate terminals, displaced stands or a static jetway layered over the animated one. Keep only the intended airport active and check scenery priority where the simulator exposes it.
  • Missing dependency: a custom jetway system may require an accompanying component specified by the scenery author. A native jetway package normally does not.
  • Control conflict: if the assigned key opens another function or does nothing, inspect the simulator's control bindings and search for the jetway or ground-services command.

Will the same airport jetways work in every simulator?

No. An FSX airport package does not automatically work in Prepar3D, MSFS or X-Plane merely because all versions represent the same real airport. Even closely related FSX and P3D scenery should only be used where the package explicitly lists compatibility.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 should also be treated as separate compatibility targets. Some scenery may function in both, but a package labelled only for one edition is not guaranteed to have correct jetway placement or animation in the other. X-Plane airports can likewise use native, scenery-specific or plugin-driven jetway systems.

How should I choose an airport scenery package?

  • Choose native jetways when easy operation and fewer dependencies matter most.
  • Choose custom jetways when the package documents accurate terminal models, gate placement and aircraft-door alignment.
  • Check whether jetways cover all terminals or selected gates; “working jetways” does not necessarily mean every parking position is animated.
  • Match the download to the exact simulator edition and remove conflicting scenery for the same airport before testing it.
