Delta Air Lines uses Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for its departures and arrivals, including Delta-operated domestic and international flights. Gate assignments can change, and a Delta-marketed codeshare operated by another airline may use that carrier’s terminal, so check both the operating airline and flight status.
Where do Delta flights arrive and depart at JFK?
Delta’s routine JFK operation is based in Terminal 4. Check-in, security and baggage reclaim are handled there for Delta-operated services, while individual flights may use gates in either the A or B gate areas.
Terminal 4 is large, so the terminal number alone is not enough for meeting someone or making a connection. Confirm the concourse and gate on the day of travel; a gate beginning with A or B is still within Terminal 4.

Can a Delta codeshare use another JFK terminal?
A flight sold by Delta can use another terminal if a partner airline actually operates it. The decisive wording on the booking is “operated by”, not merely the Delta flight number printed at the top.
- Check the operating carrier. If the flight is operated by Delta Air Lines or Delta Connection, expect Terminal 4.
- Confirm the same-day terminal. Use the boarding pass or live flight status rather than an old itinerary, because operational changes do happen.
- Check both sectors of a connection. A partner-operated onward flight may require a transfer to another JFK terminal and another security screening.
Irregular operations can also produce an unusual arrival gate or remote stand. Follow the live assignment and airport signs if they conflict with a saved itinerary.
Why do old JFK maps show Delta at Terminals 2 or 3?
Old maps list Delta at Terminals 2 or 3 because they depict retired airport layouts. Terminal 3 closed to passengers in 2013 and was subsequently demolished; Terminal 2 stopped handling passenger flights in January 2023 as Delta consolidated its JFK operation in the expanded Terminal 4.
This difference matters in flight simulation. Match charts and gate choices to the date represented by the scenery rather than assuming every simulator depicts the same JFK.
How do you transfer to or from Terminal 4?
AirTrain serves Terminal 4 and connects it with JFK’s other active passenger terminals. A normal terminal-to-terminal transfer is landside, so passengers generally need to pass through security again unless the airline provides a specific protected airside transfer.
International passengers arriving without US pre-clearance must also complete immigration and customs procedures. If continuing on another flight, this can include reclaiming checked baggage, handing it back at the transfer point and clearing security, even when both flights use Terminal 4.
