How do I enable or disable the AMD FPS overlay on PC?

To enable or disable the AMD FPS overlay on a Windows PC, start a game and press Ctrl+Shift+O. This toggles AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition’s Metrics Overlay, which can show frame rate and hardware data. If nothing appears, open AMD Software and verify that the overlay feature and its hotkey are enabled.

This is a driver-level tool, not a setting inside a particular simulator, so the same method applies across Windows flight and train simulators running on a Radeon GPU. AMD calls it the Metrics Overlay; older instructions may call it the Performance Metrics Overlay.

How do I turn the AMD FPS counter on or off?

The keyboard shortcut is the quickest method, but AMD Software also provides a switch for the overlay.

1. Open AMD Software: Launch AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition from the Start menu or the desktop context menu.
2. Open the metrics controls: Select Performance, followed by Metrics. Find the Overlay section or tab and enable the control labelled Metrics Overlay or Show Metrics Overlay. The precise layout can vary between driver releases.
3. Select the data: Ensure Frame Rate is included among the tracked metrics. You can also display frame time, GPU utilisation, temperature, power and memory use where supported.
4. Toggle it in the simulator: Load into a 3D scene and press Ctrl+Shift+O. Press the same combination again to hide it.

Alt+R normally opens the broader AMD in-game panel; it is not the same command as toggling the compact metrics display. Both shortcuts can be reassigned.

Why is Ctrl+Shift+O not showing the overlay?

The usual causes are a changed hotkey, a disabled in-game overlay, a shortcut conflict or an AMD installation without overlay features.

• Check the key: The final character is the letter O, not the number zero.
• Verify the shortcut: Open AMD Software’s Settings and Hotkeys area, find the metrics-overlay command and assign another combination if the simulator already uses it.
• Enable the overlay system: In AMD Software Settings, check that In-Game Overlay is enabled. Some releases place this under Preferences.
• Check the installation: A Driver Only installation does not include the Adrenalin overlay interface, while some reduced installations omit advanced features. If the Performance and Metrics controls are absent, install the full AMD Software interface.
• Match application privileges: An overlay may fail to attach when the simulator is running as administrator but AMD Software is not. Avoid running the simulator elevated unless an add-on specifically requires it.
• Confirm which GPU is rendering: On a hybrid-graphics laptop, the AMD overlay may not report FPS when another manufacturer’s GPU is running the simulator.
• Remove conflicts: Temporarily disable other performance, recording and capture overlays, then restart the simulator.

Why does the AMD overlay show N/A or zero FPS?

An N/A or zero reading usually means AMD Software has not detected an active 3D scene. The Windows desktop, launchers, videos and some loading screens do not produce a usable game-frame-rate reading.

Load fully into the cockpit or driving view, then toggle the overlay off and on. If it remains blank, confirm that Frame Rate is selected, try the simulator’s borderless or full-screen mode, and verify that the Radeon GPU is handling the application.

Can I make the AMD overlay show only FPS?

Does the AMD FPS overlay cap or reduce FPS?
