This freeware add-on for FS2004 showcases a meticulously crafted British Airways Boeing 757-200 (registration G-BPEK) wearing the iconic “Union Tail” scheme. Developed by the talented team at Project Open Sky, this complete package integrates realistic elements based on authentic technical data and pilot feedback. The Boeing 757-200 is known for its narrow-body design, robust Rolls-Royce powerplants, and versatile range, making it a favorite for medium-haul operations within and beyond Europe. These qualities are captured in this simulation mod to offer a detailed flight experience.

Refined Model Characteristics

  • Advanced Reflective Surfaces: Enhanced dynamic shine, providing accurate light play across the fuselage.
  • Multiple Viewing Options: Flexible wing view or a functional virtual cockpit (VC stands for Virtual Cockpit, which refers to a 3D, in-cockpit environment).
  • Opening Access Points: Fully animated passenger doors, cargo hatches, and more.
  • Passenger Cabin Details: 3D flight attendants modeled in the interior for additional realism.
  • Extensive Animations: Standard animations such as flaps, elevators, and landing gear, plus interactive cargo and service doors.

Performance and Technical Precision

  • Comprehensive Flight Dynamics: Designed around certified data for the 757-200’s real-world thrust, fuel burn, and control behavior.
  • Accurate Dimensions and Configurations: Reflects the actual Boeing specifications, considering different engine variants and resulting performance maps.
  • Detailed FDE (Flight Dynamics Engine): Incorporates specialized C32A aspects, delivering distinctive handling for various 757-200 subtypes.
  • Damage Modeling: Includes potential structural failures (flaps, tires, and engines) for pilots who prefer a deeper sense of authenticity.
  • Adaptive Gauges: Tailored instrumentation choices to match the specific engine setups installed on the aircraft.
  • Multiple Gear Categories: Default and alternative gear positions to balance aesthetic look against flight handling needs.

Lighting and Documentation Inclusions

  • New FS2004 Lighting Effects: Updated illumination textures for more vivid external and internal lights.
  • Operations Manual: Includes speed charts and additional references to guide procedure management.

Installation Steps

  1. Extract the contents, then place the “Aircrafts” folder into the main FS2004 “AIRCRAFT” directory.
  2. Move the provided gauge files into the simulator’s main “GAUGE” folder.
  3. Copy the corresponding effects into the main “EFFECTS” directory.

Note: If you plan to fly using the virtual cockpit, download the dedicated VC textures. To activate the VC in the aircraft.cfg, locate the line model= and append “VC” (without quotes). This switch changes from the wing-view version to the VC-enabled model.

Access Points and Animated Doors

Project Open Sky assigned these key commands for opening various doors:

Passenger Door 1:
Shift + E
Passenger Door 2 (Tailhook function):
Use the Tailhook command
Luggage Doors:
Shift + E + 2
Large Cargo Hatch (Wingfold function):
Use the Wingfold command

The Boeing 757-200 has historically been a cornerstone of British Airways’ mid-range routes, offering a balanced mix of capacity andexcellent runway performance. In this FS2004 rendition, Project Open Sky developers have integrated diverse engine options and realistic thrust mapping to honor the aircraft’s dynamic capabilities. By combining intricate lighting, high-fidelity textures, and thoroughly tuned aerodynamic properties, they have delivered a freeware package that merges technical authenticity with an immersive visual experience.
