MSFS RAF Marham (EGYM)

RAF Marham (EGYM) scenery recreates Norfolk’s military airfield in Microsoft Flight Simulator with custom buildings, illuminated taxi-through F-35 shelters, proximity-triggered gates and animated hardened aircraft shelters. Revised ground layouts connect parking, taxiways and runways for ATC, airport services and GSX, while optional static Tornado GR4s and a 617 Squadron tail memorial reflect the station’s heritage.

Expert Overview

I installed nickb007’s RAF Marham (EGYM) in Microsoft Flight Simulator and flew a short circuit before exploring the parking areas. At ground level, I found the illuminated F-35 shelter interiors particularly effective, giving those spaces more depth than closed structures. The shelters allow taxi-through access, and nearby aircraft trigger the parking-area gates. Custom buildings and revised ground markings give the station a distinct military character.

I appreciated the Tornado heritage alongside the newer facilities: optional GR4 statics populate the eastern shelter area, while a 617 Squadron tail memorial provides a quieter historical detail. The connected ground network supports GSX, ATC and airport services. One reservation remains worth noting: the developer describes the latest correction for floating or sunken hardened aircraft shelters as tentative, rather than a guaranteed fix.

RAF Marham (EGYM) by nickb007 brings custom airfield buildings, animated shelters and revised ground layouts to Microsoft Flight Simulator. This freeware scenery recreates the Norfolk military station with F-35 parking areas, optional static Tornado GR4s and a connected taxiway network for ATC, airport services and GSX.

RAF Marham: F-35 Facilities and Tornado Heritage

Marham serves as the UK’s main operating base for the F-35B Lightning, following its long association with the Tornado force. The scenery reflects both periods: F-35 shelters accommodate taxi-through access, interior lighting and parking, while the eastern HAS [Hardened Aircraft Shelter] area houses Tornado statics. A 617 Squadron Tornado tail memorial adds another reference to the station’s operational history.

Across successive releases, nickb007 has replaced default runway elements, rebuilt taxiways and added custom structures throughout the airfield. The substantial version 3 update aligned taxiways and painted lines with updated map imagery. However, the developer acknowledges some artistic licence in the buildings because reference photographs remain scarce for parts of Marham.

Animated Access, Shelters and Ground Services

  • Proximity-triggered gates: gates at the F-35 parking areas respond to nearby aircraft. Sperx created these gates and also supplied the HAS animation work.
  • Usable F-35 shelters: taxi-through models replace the earlier solid structures, with interior lighting and parking positions. A later replacement addressed texture problems that some users encountered.
  • Connected airport layout: version 3.4 linked parking, taxiways and runways so GSX, simulator ATC and airport services could use the ground network.
  • Custom airfield detail: buildings, taxiway lights, flashing lights, trees, a pushback tug and additional ground clutter supplement the operational areas.
  • Eastern shelter parking: successive updates expanded parking around the HAS complex and added static Tornado GR4 aircraft.

Contributors and Related Aircraft Content

Alongside nickb007’s own buildings, the scenery includes a control tower by DeadJen and a C Type hangar from Vortex_SD. Sperx, also the creator of Bitburg scenery, contributed the animated gates and shelters. John Young granted permission for the Tornado models, and the developer also uses figures from the Animated Humans library.

For pilots flying the Indiafoxtecho F-35B, nickb007 has also created a separate full RAF tails pack. That companion repaint collection remains distinct from this airfield scenery.

Development Record and Version 4.0 Notes

Version 4.0, dated 15 March 2026, introduces a possible remedy for HAS shelters that sometimes float above or sink below ground level. The developer describes this as a hopeful fix rather than a confirmed resolution. Earlier attempts included removing the shelters’ snap-to-ground option.

2025–2026: Shelter Animation and Layout Repairs

  • v4.0 — 15 March 2026: introduced the latest attempted correction for floating or sunken HAS shelters.
  • v3.95 — 19 October 2025: repaired taxiway lines that simulator updates had broken.
  • v3.9 — 9 September 2025: removed the HAS snap-to-ground setting to investigate inconsistent shelter elevations.
  • v3.8.5 — 5 September 2025: corrected duplicate XML files that caused the World Map to display an old runway and the scenery to load the previous HAS model.
  • v3.8 — 4 September 2025: introduced animated HAS shelters with animation by Sperx.
  • v3.7 — 17 August 2025: removed autogen buildings that a simulator update had introduced.
  • v3.5 — 16 May 2025: added Sperx’s proximity-animated gates to the F-35 parking areas.
  • v3.4 — 25 February 2025: added buildings and custom flashing lights, then connected parking, taxiways and runways for GSX, ATC and airport services.
  • v3.3 — 5 January 2025: restored a missing texture that had left a building door pink and added further custom buildings.
  • v3.2 — 4 January 2025: added a new HAS shelter, the 617 Squadron Tornado tail memorial and more buildings around the shelter areas.

2024: Runway Replacement and Custom Buildings

  • v3.1.2 — 19 October: restored a missing Canberra texture.
  • v3.1 — 11 October: corrected runway references on taxiway signs.
  • v3 — 11 October: realigned all taxiways and lines to updated map imagery, introduced numerous developer-made buildings, added DeadJen’s control tower and installed custom taxiway lights. The developer noted that further buildings remained in progress.
  • v2.3 — 15 July: replaced the F-35 shelter to address unusual texture issues and adjusted several taxi lines and parking positions.
  • v2.2 — 23 June: incorporated the Tornado AI pack to provide static aircraft at the eastern HAS site.
  • v2.1 — 12 June: increased airfield clutter.
  • v2.0 — 24 April: expanded eastern HAS parking for Tornados.
  • v1.96 — 26 January: added eastern HAS parking and optional static GR4s in a separate folder, with John Young’s permission.
  • v1.95 — 25 January: removed an isolated light from a field beneath the approach and added John Young’s Tornado models and statics at the eastern shelter site.
  • v1.9 — 24 January: rebuilt taxiways, replaced Asobo’s runways with new ones and adjusted painted taxiway lines.

2022–2023: Early Airfield Revisions

  • v1.8 — 11 December 2023: introduced Vortex_SD’s C Type hangar.
  • v1.75 — 5 April 2023: moved taxiway signs off the runway.

  • v1.6 — 14 June 2022: replaced solid F-35 shelters with taxi-through models featuring interior lighting and parking, and added a pushback tug.
  • v1.4 — 2 May 2022: corrected the 24/06 runway designation and tidied taxiway-line junctions.
  • v1.2 — 15 February 2022: improved C hangar textures.
  • v1.1 — 8 February 2022, initial release: replaced simulator-generated taxiway lines with the developer’s own markings and added trees and other airfield details.

Installing RAF Marham in Microsoft Flight Simulator

  1. Extract the downloaded archive.
  2. Copy both Marham-2024 fix and nickb-airport-egym-marham into your Microsoft Flight Simulator Community folder.

The developer identifies the static Tornado GR4 content as a separate, optional folder: leave that folder out if you do not want those aircraft to appear.

nickb007 continues to develop the airfield and welcomes suggestions for additions. The developer has explicitly authorised Fly Away Simulation to host this freeware package.

How to install this mod

MSFS add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Locate your MSFS Community folder

All MSFS add-ons live in the Community folder. Microsoft Store / Game Pass version: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community\. Steam version: %APPDATA%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community\. Tip: enable Developer Mode in MSFS to see your exact Community folder path.
  3. Copy the package into Community

Drag the extracted folder into your Community folder. Most MSFS add-ons follow this pattern.
