FS2004 Pacific Alaska's Douglas DC-3

Pacific Alaska’s Douglas DC-3 liveries bring authentic Alaskan bush character to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with two complimentary repaints: a crisp, freshly finished scheme and a subtly weathered variant. Both use 32-bit textures for sharp color and lighting response, and require the default Douglas DC-3 base aircraft.

Upgrade your classic simulation adventures with these two complimentary Douglas DC-3 repaints for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, depicting Pacific Alaska’s storied livery in both an immaculate finish and a slightly used appearance. Created by developer Melvin Reed, these refined textures pay homage to the DC-3’s enduring legacy in challenging Alaskan service.

Distinctive Repaints Featuring Pacific Alaska Colors

Each included livery showcases the historical essence of the Douglas DC-3 in service above rugged northern territories. One skin portrays a sleek and freshly-detailed version with crisp paintwork, while the other introduces subtle aging effects for a more seasoned aesthetic. Both sets come in 32-bit format to provide optimal resolution under various lighting conditions.

Technical Details and Integration

This enhancement requires the default Douglas DC-3 found in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. You must acquire the base aircraft model, which is available in the Fly Away Simulation library as freeware (ensure you have that prior to installing this repaint). The following instructions outline the setup process to seamlessly incorporate the two liveries into your simulator.

Repaint Folder Installation

  • Copy both “texture.Pacific Alaska (clean)” and “texture.Pacific Alaska (weathered)” folders into your “Flight Simulator 9/Aircraft/Douglas_DC3” directory.
  • Within any standard DC-3 texture folder, locate the six critical files (Douglas_DC3_1_C, Douglas_DC3_1_D, Douglas_DC3_2_C, Douglas_DC3_2_T, Douglas_DC3_3_C, and Prop_DC3) and duplicate them into both of your new Pacific Alaska texture folders.

Aircraft.cfg Adjustments

Add the following entries to your aircraft.cfg file, substituting x with the appropriate consecutive number to avoid conflicts with existing variants. Ensure that each block accurately references the respective “clean” or “weathered” folder name:

Credit and Acknowledgments

Developed by Melvin Reed, these Pacific Alaska DC-3 repaints rely on the original 24-bit paint templates graciously provided by Mark Beaumont. The Douglas DC-3 remains an iconic aircraft, especially in regions like Alaska where its reliable radial engines and robust airframe proved invaluable for hauling passengers and cargo in harsh weather conditions.
