How do I invert the camera Y-axis in MSFS 2024?

To invert the Y-axis camera in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, open the Camera page under General settings and enable Invert Y Axis for the relevant view. If your controller ignores that switch, select the device in Controls and reverse its camera pitch-axis binding. Cockpit, external and drone cameras are configured separately.

How to invert the camera Y-axis in MSFS 2024

  1. Open the camera settings: From the main menu or pause menu, open Settings and find the Camera page under General settings.
  2. Select the relevant camera section: Look under Cockpit, External or Chase, and Drone settings. Enable the option labelled Invert Y Axis for the view you want to change.
  3. Test the camera: With inverted look enabled, pushing the stick upwards should tilt the view down, while pulling it downwards should look up.
  4. Configure other views separately: Changing the cockpit setting may not affect the external or drone camera.
  5. Apply and save: Confirm the changes before leaving the settings screen.

How to reverse the controller’s camera binding

Use a binding-level reversal when the general camera option does not affect a gamepad, joystick or mouse axis.

  1. Open Settings > Controls and select the exact device operating the camera.
  2. Activate the control profile you normally use. Duplicate the default profile or create a custom one if it cannot be edited.
  3. Use the control search or input-detection function, then move the stick or mouse vertically.
  4. Find the assigned camera pitch axis for the relevant cockpit, external or drone view.
  5. Open that binding’s options and enable Reverse Axis or Invert Axis. The wording can vary slightly between interface revisions and control presets.
  6. Validate the binding, apply the profile and test it in the same camera mode.

Which Y-axis setting should I change?

For inverted look, reverse the camera’s pitch or vertical-look command rather than its vertical translation command.

Why is invert Y not working?

An unchanged camera usually means the wrong device, profile or camera context was edited.

  • Wrong input device: MSFS 2024 stores bindings separately for the mouse, gamepad, joystick and other controllers. Select the device that actually moves the view.
  • Wrong camera mode: Cockpit, external and drone pitch can use independent settings. Repeat the change for every mode you use.
  • Duplicate assignments: Search by input and remove any second command responding to the same axis. Two competing camera bindings can produce erratic movement.
  • Digital look commands: Commands such as Look Up and Look Down are buttons, not an analogue axis, so they may not offer an invert option. Swap their assignments instead. Our camera and view command reference can help identify the paired controls.
  • Inactive custom profile: Confirm that the edited profile remains selected after applying the changes.

Do not try to invert the view by altering dead zones or sensitivity curves. Those settings change response and speed; the axis reversal switch changes direction.

Will this reverse the aircraft’s pitch controls?

Reversing an individual camera pitch binding does not reverse the aircraft’s elevator or cyclic controls. Avoid applying a global hardware-axis inversion when the same physical axis has other assignments; reverse only the camera command you intend to change.
