Chico Municipal Airport plays a vital role in regional aviation activities by serving Butte County and surrounding communities in Northern California. This scenery enhancement developed by Clear Sky Simulations upgrades various airport elements, ensuring an up-to-date AFCAD (Airport Facility Data) layout and improved ground details. It is completely freeware and compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
Technical Refinements and Airport Background
Located about five miles north of Chico, this municipal airport provides multiple General Aviation services and handles private charters. The new AFCAD configuration fine-tunes runway parametrization and taxi pathways, adjusting parking dimensions and gate markings for realistic positioning. Various ground polygons are seamlessly integrated using elements from the default scenery library. These polygons improve apron areas, capturing the characteristic layout found in real-world operations.
Engineering Details in the Package
BGL Files: The included KCIC_CSS.BGL and KCIC_CSS_CVX.BGL are compiled through Airport Design Editor (an advanced tool that facilitates interactive placement of scenery objects). They define structure and landclass data, thereby influencing navigational aids, taxi routes, and airport boundaries. As these files rely on default simulator models, ensure scenery complexity is set to at least NORMAL so that the relevant 3D objects and ground features become visible.
Installation Steps
- Copy both KCIC_CSS.BGL and KCIC_CSS_CVX.BGL into your “Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/Scenery” directory.
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X again to detect and display the newly refined airport details.
Uninstall Procedure
- Remove those same two BGL files from “Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/Scenery.”
- Reload the simulator, and the default Chico Municipal Airport environment will be restored.
Additional Notes
This freeware release by Clear Sky Simulations is provided “as-is,” and the development team disclaims any liability for possible software conflicts. Nonetheless, it has been thoroughly tested to ensure seamless integration with ordinary simulator setups.
